Joey Mod: Plastidipped driving lights?

I've seen the posts/threads about joey-modding the headlights...is it possible to joey-mod the driving lights?

Since Schultze has the aero kit now, including the black grill, I really don't want to put chrome driving lights on...I'd like to plastidip the chrome pieces, but I'm not sure how to do it for the driving lights.

Thanks!

Erika

I would prep the surface of the driving lights before adding paint or plastic dip, just to create a better adhesive surface.
I did just see a MINI recently that had the driving lights painted the same color as the body and they looked great.
I know and realize you're talking about plastic dip but I thought I would give my imput on painted driving lights.

Thanks for the input...

I had considered bodypaint for the driving lights, but since the grill is black, I figured I'd go with black...plastidip for the "matte" finish it imparts.

Guess I'll have to take a closer look at the driving lights...they've been in a box since the 3/15 accident...if the wiring to the lamps can be removed and easily reinstalled, it should be relatively easy to joey-mod.

Well technically it wouldn't be joey-modding the driving lights. Joey mod means to paint the INSIDE housing of the headlight. The driving lights have no inside housing to be painted as the entire thing is the reflector and painting that would render them useless.

I'm sure you could paint the outer housing of the driving lights though.

Doh! Good point!

I guess the basic question I have is this:

Has anyone tried plastidipping the chrome exterior parts of the driving lights...including the baking process...and how did it turn out?

Honestly, you shouldn't have to prep the surface with the exception of wipping it down with alcohol. I wouldn't even sand them... I just did my headlight rings, and they have held up to an onslaught of bugs and debris. I've very happy. Plus, if it should ever chip, just peel it off, and respray, or just go back to the stock chrome. Easily reversible! Good luck and post pictures when you're done!

I'd try the plastidip first, its cheap and totally reversible if you dont like it. then you can move on to paint.
