Checked roof

Yesterday I had massive bird poopage on my black roof (car is only 3 months old). Tried several cleaners, scratch removers, and polishes and there are still small spots where the acid etched the clear coat (I guess). Needeless to say I am very sad that my previously pristine MINI has been violated! Anyway, that is a discussion for another forum.

But I did start thinking about what I could do if and when the roof starts to really show age. one option may be to get a checked pattern applied. But I have a couple of questions:

I assume for a black roof the application would be white checks with clear (black showing through the clear). Is that correct?

What are some sources for the decal? Recommendations?

How does the white checks look with the Pepper white color? Anyone have that combo?

Thanks in advance for your input.

no clear area on the decal but rather just white squares applied to the black roof.

I had one put on through the local dealer (and a subcontractor) and lo and behold, it is starting to crack after one year. When the cracking gets more visible, it will be replaced under warranty. Dealer and subcontractor have not seen cracking before and have no explanation. Car is hand washed and lives in the shade.

I highly recommend a full one-piece roof decal.

The more edges of vinyl you have, the more you'll be cleaning off the polish/wax build up (unless you're one of those owners who doesn't polish or wax, of course).

There are some MINI owners here who have done the individual squares and like them. Some even claim to not have any wax build up on the edges and they didn't tape them off before waxing. Physically impossible. They might not notice it if they don't have a keen eye, but others will.
