Good info SnYpR ! I think Plasti-dip is a great product ! Very easy to apply and if one goof's up, peel it off and start again ! I did that twice today ! LOL !

Quote: My rings have been done since april and there is not a single mark on them. my scoop is holding up just as good.

also, if you find your getting little pits or pockets in your plastidip you are probably laying it on too thick and/or not allowing it to dry totally. ive experienced the problem quite a few times. also, dont paint in high humidity that will screw with your results as well

Paulie,
The car looks fantastic. Easily one of my favorites.
I like keeping the red "S" and the ruby tail lights. It helps tie the look together. Good job.

paulie any way you could take that close up shot of your gas cap and take one of the headlight rings or door handles so we can compare how close of a match Lyle's black vinyl is to the black Plasti-Dip? I'm getting his door handles soon and plan on spraying the gas cap and side repeaters in plasti-dip to match and hoping its similar. Any help would be much appreicated.

Pauliekeys, that looks fantastic! Did you prep the surface before the plasticote? Sand, scuff, etc? Thanks!

The color is close, real close ! Close enough that someone like me can deal with it ! LOL ! You might say I'm "a bit picky"
the only way it's going to be an exact match is if Lyle does all of the pieces which as far as I know, he can't do. I'm not sure why but back in March he told me that he was unable to cover the gas lid in satin black. I'm not sure how the Plasti-dip will hold up but I do like how it came out.

Skillet had posted that he had wiped down his parts with rubbing alcohol first so that's what I did as well ! No scuffing or sanding. That's one of the reasons I decided to try this stuff out. I like the idea that I can reverse anything I have covered and not have damaged the finish with sanding.

Thanks SnYpR ! Boo is in some great company for sure !

The true test in how it will hold up will be when I wash the car I think. I'm pretty sure that the side markers will be fine. The gas lid is the piece that I would guess could fail but if it does, I'll just re apply ! I might end up powder coating the gas lid if the Plasti-dip doesn't work out.

I've hand washed my car twice since I painted the gas cap and it's holding up just great

I use coin operated car washes with the high pressure hose since i live in an apt and have no waterhose....I treat all the plastidipped parts just like normal painted parts on the car(no special attention) just to remind you, ive done my gas cap, handles, door cups, both MINI badges, side markers, scoop, and headlight rings...so if they hold up to a pressure wash, hand washing wont be an issue. ive rubbed the rings pretty good too with a wash mitt to get dried bug guts off...no harm done whatsoever

Thank you Vernon, very cool of you to say that ! That kind of Joey mod would look so bitchin ! I could do no more after that mod but, I'm just going to chill for right now and enjoy all I've done for awhile. I've been going strong for two years now and my wife would really like me to stop for awhile ! LOL ! Thanks again for the kind words !

Nice job on the wings. I've been contemplating shooting them myself b/c vinylstyles is currently not producing their wings... Lyle told me it'd be about a month though, so I think I'll just wait (planning on getting the matte black w/ red MINI logo ).

Have you ever though about tinting your turn signal housings? It's super easy Pull bumper off, unscrew turn signal housings, apply lamin-x film, and re-assemble. I think that and a carbon fiber hood scoop would be the only two things left I would do to your car. But very nice, none the less!

Please, no more ideas ! LOL ! You and Vernon29RW both have some great ideas(his was a joey mod) but I think I'm done !
After completing the front and rear emblems yesterday I went for a little drive. I parked and walked around the car, took a few pictures and took a really close look at all I have done. I thought about all the work and all the mods I've done over the last two years and just felt that Boo was complete. I've done a lot of mods (most are under the hood and under the car, just ask my wife) ! It was my plan to cover all the chrome in a satin black after I had Lyle cover my head light rings a year ago and yesterday it was finally completed. It's funny that my original idea for Boo was to do nothing but engine and suspension work and leave the car looking very stock and stealthy.................... well that idea went out the window after Lyle's head light rings !

DAMM YOU LYLE !

Here's mine which I did using Vinyl tape bought from a sign printing shop. 10 bucks for a square yard. Beltline was blacked out using detailing tape bought from Pepboys for 6 bucks. It's not professional work but it looks good. (of course blemishes can be seen if you look really close)

I have yet to use Plasti-dip for the door handles! The only remaining chrome in my car. i dont think I can do the joey mod. It would look good though.
Thanks you guys for the info!

Paulie,
Have you thought about exacto knifing around the center ring of the emblems and peeling the plasti-dip off to reveal the MINI? Just a thought.

I just went to the sign printing shop about 2 blocks from where i lived, and they gave it to me for $10. This is the kind of shop that does body wraps to cars too.

Yeah I thought about exposing the Mini label. In one of my botched attempts at covering the emblem, I was able to expose the "Mini" but after I thought about it, I liked the fact that only a black outline of the emblem is left. Those that know our cars know there is a "Mini" emblem so, for me it really brings home the black out theme I've gone for. I shaved the rear hatch some time ago and had planed on removing both the front and rear emblems at some point. I think it's kind of cool that the emblem is still there although blacked out ! I suppose it's my desire to be a little different then the next Mini !
