Interior/Exterior Window Tinting
Window Tinting
i just got my cooper tinted out...and all around the edge with the dot-matrix type pattern...the tint looks funny....i called up the company who installed it and said that there is nothing that can be done cause it traps air around those dots around the exterior of the window...will try to get some close up shots of the window when i get home, but has anybody had a problem with this with their cars?
please help

Adam,
It just comes down to the installer being lazy and sloppy. I have a guy that has been doing my cars for years. IMO best tint guy I have ever seen. I had a very hard time with my porsche carrera. The dot matrix in the rear window is almost 4 inches wide.
Here is what he did. He took a dull razer, and shaved them down. Doesnt hurt it at all, and makes the tint stick better. As for the mini, he had no problems wit the dot-matrix.
Take it back to them, cause they are just giving you the run around

I had mine installed by someone who did a superb job...he said the only way to completely eliminate it was to do the filing thing (but he said not necessary and probably not best recommended) What he did was push against them with a hard card...he then told me to go back in a couple days after the sun has settled on it and use a credit card wrapped in a micro or some sort of cloth and push against it
It works because the heat evaporates the water from install and allows the sticky part to get in-between the dot matrix...it just takes some time, and trust me you won't get all of them out, but almost all will be gone and it will look amazing

I hate the idea of painting the dots. My parents own a tint company and its really hit or miss. Sometimes the tint adheres, sometimes it doesn't. We have it good though, accords with like 5" of matrix dots SUCK because the tint falls off half the time. You can also wetsand the dots very lightly to give them some grit for the tint to adhere to. Its messy but it works like a charm.
