2004 MC Rearview Mirror Swap

Just completed a 2004 to 2005/06 mirror swap. I thought since I had everything a part I take some pictures so everyone could see a comparison between the two mirrors.

This picture shows a side by side view

Here you can see how much bigger the 2005/06 mirror is compared to the 2004. The 2004 mirror back reads "Donnelly 01 5746." The 2006 mirror back reads "010784."

Picture showing mounting area of 2005/06 mirror base. (Note the three wire connection has been pushed down inside the base. 2004 doesn't use this connection.)

2004 Mirror mounting base area.

Side view of 2004 mirror. Note the smaller mounting base.

This view shows the larger 2005/2006 mounting base. The actual mounting connection and spring clip are the same for the 2004.

This is the roof mounting connection and screw. The numbers on the part is 108-2890 (ZP-5).

If anyone is thinking of removing their mirror the process is very simple. Just rotate the base of the mirror 90 degrees in either direction. It takes a pretty good amount of force to rotate the base so be prepared. The mirror is held on by a clamping spring clip which opened by rotating the base.

(WARNING: Make sure you hold the shaft coming out of the mirror's base when rotating and not the mirror itself. Putting force on the mirror may cause it to separate from the the ball joint in the back of the mirror.) After the mirror is loose make sure you check for wires that may be connected to the mirror. The whole process takes about 5 minutes. Installation is just the revese of removal.

I hope this answers some of the questions everyone has about these two different size mirrors.

Great write up

I'm interested in moving down to a smaller mirror... but I comPLETELY forgot that tin-top mirror mounts differently than my cabrio mirror Bummer b/c that means it won't fit my car
