Rear spoiler downward deflector

Has anyone ever heard of a rear downward deflector spoiler? This is the first winter with my MINI and I really hate how bad the back end picks ups road grime and is impossible to keep it clean (especially since we have been having very long periods of times that it's been so cold it can't be washed). Just trying to touch the rear door latch to open it ends up getting my hands covered in mud or road salt.

I used to have a full size van that I put a downward deflector on the back and that really kept the back end a lot cleaner so I would think the same thing would do the same on the MINI.

I do not have a rear spoiler on it currently (and it's a non S model) so this would be something that would have to be mountable on my MINI as it is. I do not do a lot of high speed driving so I don't think the downward flow would affect the driving that much. Probably even if the downward deflector was somehow incorporated into a normal spoiler would also work.

What exactly IS a downward deflector? All I know is that I have a spoiler on mine and the boot is ALWAYS dirty. I've heard mud flaps don't help much, but I've never heard of a downward deflector.

Got a pic of what you're talking about?

Yea, that is something like I'm thinking of. It directs the flow of air from over the roof down the back which reduces the circulation turbulence created by a flat ended vehicle like any hatchback type vehicle. I'm sure others have the same issue, but check this link and this is what I'm dealing with.

If something like this doesn't exist, it sure would be nice if something could be made. I could see that some modest spoiler could just have a deflector built into it to deflect some of the air downward also.

I think you'll be really disapointed if you do find one, I've owned a few vehicles with those and the back window was still always getting covered in dirt/dust. eg. toyota 4-runner, Chevy s-10, my buddies woody, ...
Probably why all the suv's & hatchbacks come standard with a rear wiper now instead.
