Powdercoat Stock Wheels

I am considering doing a black powdercoat on my stock 17" Crown Spoke wheels. Has anyone done this and have a picture? Any reason why this shouldn't be done?

I can't go back so want to make sure it's the right decision.

I was thinking the same exact thing when I take delivery of my MCS, Still debating if I should just sell the 17" crown or just coat them. Either way, its just taking away from my go fast parts

i remember seeing in the 2nd. gen. forum somewhere, a guy powder coated his black crown spoke wheels...... def. changed the look of the car, got the black point through, just wasnt my style. the thickness of each spoke was just to much and didnt look to good IMO. i like something along the lines of oz ultraleggeras in black

What does it cost to have the current finish stripped and then powder coated?

One thing you might consider is that the Crown Spokes weigh 22.5 lbs. each. You can get aftermarket 17" wheels in the 16 lb. range.

You can get a Rota RB 17x7.5 (similar look to Crown Spoke, but not as heavy looking nor as heavy) in gunmetal with a polished rim for about $150 each.

According to their vendor announcement, they have some sort of free shipping thing going on now.

I don't know the weight of the 17x7.5, but my 16x7 weigh 14 lbs.

dont forget about the large plastic center cap on the crown spokes.
because its plastic, you will not be able to powder coat it.

you can however get the wheel and cap painted.
not sure how well the plastic cap will hold up with paint though.

I was quoted $65 per tire for the powder coat but have a connection that will do it for free!! I have ordered the centercaps with the mini logo for $30 per set. The price is right.

But just so you know....you will NOT be able to have the center caps from the Crown Spokes powder coated.

the process for powder coating involves heat curing. the plastic cap will not hold up and will melt. you will have to paint the cap, and I'm not sure how good of a color match you will get.

just something to be aware of...

but those aren't crown spokes.
the crown spoke wheel has a LARGE center cap that covers all the wheel bolts....vs. the small cap as pictured in the photo you posted.

see the area in red below. thats the piece I've been referring too.

Some places can actually powdercoat plastic....they use low temp stuff.....so you could ask about that.

I am getting mine powder coated for $65 per wheel next week. I have R90s...will there be any issues with powder coating on the centers of those?

My wheels are powdercoated with brake dust. I haven't washed the wheels for months on purpose.

wow, that looks nice! I'm definitely going to add that to my 'to do' list since my wife won't let me buy new wheels and tires.

That looks really good except someone put the center cap on upside down. Didn't you notice that? I would make them redo it if it were me.

I had seen a post from someone about that, but everything I have researched doesn't indicate the metal is weakened.
