Hi....

Im from the UK so cannot comment on costs in the US.....

But from what my dealer told me there is quite alot of work involved as the "textured" arches need to be primed and flatterned down a couple of times before paint goes on......they also ordered a new set of clips and said they had to fit a new set of sill protectors. Im not sure if they damaged them by accident getting them off or you have to destroy them in order to get them off im not sure.

Ken

Call Way, he'll hook you up and send you a new set with clips already in place to install.

We ordered fender arches from Waylen last week. We just picked up our PW/B MCS yesterday with the hypersport kit so we ordered the arches ASAP because I don't like the weird black arches. Hopefully we will get those arches soon!

I did this on my '06.

Assuming that the install is the same, I strongly recommend that you replace all of the body clips if you take off your old arches and have them painted. They are only $30-40 for a completely new set and the pieces will attach to the car much more precisely than with clips that have been pried away from the car and then re-attached.

Yeah, the good news is the set from Way are brand new, smoothed out, painted, clear coated and come complete with new clips.

I am strongly considering going the route of ordering the painted arches from a third party like so many of you have allready done.
I assume that the paint used is the same paint that the mini factory/dealers/VDC uses to paint the cars right?I can just picture it now, unwrapping my new christmas preasent and holding them up to my car and having them be just a weeee bit off, and that would bug the heck out of me and probably me alone as no one would be able to notice, that is unless they too inspected the car with a magnifying glass.
Also, what is the ballpark price range for these third party painted fenders vs ballpark range for having the dealer do it on a hypersport pkg (fenders only)
thanks

I'm assuming it's factory paint. It better be because that would bug me too!

Way charged me $500 with shipping. He said it's an easy do-it-yourself install, but I'm still looking for some install instructions.

Hey yall, I went to the Mini dealership to ask my salesman about the painted arches and where I could get them done. First off, he told me to order brand new, unpainted arches it costs at most $15 per arch, so to me $500 seems a bit much to have them painted and installed and my salesman agreed. He's giving me a quote on Weds. for the prep and paint. I'll let everyone know the progress of my findings.

If you can find them for $15 an arch, snap up a bunch. I think your salesman is misinformed.

Maybe so, but he told me that he knew that becuase he had to order them for someone who had neeeded to replace them due to a car accident, so unless the price went up since 2 months ago I'm assuming he knows what he's talking about. Like I said, I'll let everyone know on Weds. what he tells me as far as paint and where to get it done, wether it be at the dealership or locally.

The '06 arches run anywhere from $15 to $30 a piece, so it's not too bad. I think that the '07 design has fewer pieces... esp if you have the aero kit where the black arches terminate into painted pieces at the bumper and door sill.

$500 is a good price. It isn't for the parts... it's for the labor. The arches are textured plastic so, for the paint to stick properly and not flake off, you have to chemically strip them, sand 'em, prime 'em, sand 'em, prime 'em, sand 'em, paint 'em, sand 'em, paint 'em, sand 'em and apply clear coat.

I had mine done at a top notch body shop in Dallas... it took somewhere around 25 hours of labor to do all 12 pieces on my '06. I've seen arches painted for half of what I paid, but the quality shows it.

$500 for new painted parts is a fair deal... a bargain for what it cost to do this on my '06!
