I don't know about them getting hard but they've still got a good bit of rubber left. I'm fairly sure they'll last the whole season.

Results updated for Event 6 this past weekend- see post#15.

Gonzo had a great novice outing and was right up there for STX and in the top half of drivers on PAX (49th out of 110). Very strong results!

pmfranke continues to improve in SM class.

Mike W. is killing everyone in his G-stock MINI and finishes again 2nd on PAX overall.

I was able to get 7th on PAX overall for my best finish this season and that makes two MINIs in the top 10 on PAX.

minihune, you forgot these photos (also courtesy of Garrett from SCCA and hosting from Cory) :

I think these were filed under blurry, but they still look good. Jon/Erin said their photos have been uploaded to Cory so they should be available soon.

Ammo-mac,

Thanks, we could use some support. Usually at least 8 MINI drivers out there during the day at different times. Some changing tires. I usually need to get there before 6am and do my tire change, tech inspection and course setup all before 8am. By 9am we have checked the course and approved it for safety, done a bunch of walk throughs which you can certainly join us in, and had a driver's meeting. First heat one cars out about 930am.

If you do come by just ask for Brad (who drives the Blue Monster MINI).
I'll get you in early and get you in the pit area. Bring shoes and if you have a helmet that is M or SA rated bring that too. Normally food and drink only for drivers and pit crew so put it in the trunk.

Tell us about your MINI. Do you have any plans to autocross?
Next event after this weekend is Oct 21.

I'm the one in Kaneohe that just picked up Wendells pepper white 04 JCW S

my previous track experince is all with 2 wheelers. I spent several years doing track days in the midwest on motorcycles.

alsp spent a couple seasons working with the folks that covered our region of amature racing doing everything from tires to grid marshall

I think I'd like to give the autocross a go, but I'd like to spend a day or 2 on site just to get a feel for it before making any commitment

I think you mean the "pristinely kept" Pepper white JCW MCS formerly garaged and never driven in the rain MINI.

Yes, I know the car very well. Should have bought it myself except the MINI police at home would have had me arrested and executed without a hearing.

Ok, so do you still have a helmet and is it M2000 or M2005 rated? If so then that is acceptable and bring it with you to autocross. If you can stay all day we do have funruns about 330pm after all official runs are done and we can take passengers who have both shoes and helmets.

Bring water or fluids for yourself, hat, sunblock and comfortable clothes. I might rain on and off. A chair does come in handy if you are around all day.

I usually pack all sorts of stuff and the kitchen sink.

Mac - park your stuff (cooler, chair, bag, etc.) in the HMMC canopy (I should be able to bring it out again). BTW, this is DKMini on the HMMC forum (Dirk).

Brad - if we have the HMMC Coffee Gathering at the next auto-x, can you convince Amy to let us get MINI folks into the pit area to generate auto-x interest?

i have a motorcycle helmet, but they are rated differently so it probably wouldn't work (i'll bring it along just in case )

Motorcycle helmets are common and some are rated some not rated,
Usually they have M rating, recently M2000 and M2005 are accepted at SCCA autocross. SA rated helmets are more expensive and for auto racing due to fire resistance needed. SA2000 and SA2005 are accepted.

All helmets not rated or M95 or SA95 are not accepted for autocross use.

Hope to see you all this sunday. It might rain. Makes it more fun!

Next autocross is this sunday, just in time to follow last sunday's event.

We had a good turnout with maybe even more MINIs in the future.

For the day out of 105 drivers with PAX handicap the MINIs finished
2nd, 3rd, and 11th overall. Nice.

And our spy found this uber MINI in the pit area ready for future events!

Update to Post #15.

Short course only 0.25 miles. I ran in 27.628 seconds but I think there was plenty of room for improvement. 5 drivers out of 122 were under 27 seconds flat. I was under 27 I would have barely made the top 10 with PAX handicap applied. I was 1.2 seconds slower than the fastest time run- that's a huge gap to make up.

Fortunately I know the MINI is up to the task. I just need to apply enough skill to try to keep up with the competition which has been getting rather fierce.

Next event is after Thanksgiving on Nov 25th.

I used a motorcycle helmet for 4 years in SCCA. It had an "SA" rating...I think "special application". Did some super bike racing back in the day....
I currently use a full face motorcycle helmet and, no, I'm not sharing with MotorMouth

Motorcycle helmets that are rated are usually OK for SCCA solo events.
M2000 or M2005 are accepted now. Every 5 years the number goes up. We won't see M2010 until about 2011.

SA rated allow for fire resistance and generally more expensive, some motorcycle helmets and many car racing helmets are rated SA2000 or SA2005. This rating is needed for SCCA ProSolo or wheel to wheel racing but also fine for SCCA solo events.

I'd say the vary majority of approved helmets at our events are M2005 rated. If there is no rating then it cannot be used for any SCCA solo event- fun run or anything else.
