mainland move...

Well.. I am 95% sure I will be headed to the mainland sometime after the beginning of the new year.. The dilemma now is to take the MCS or sell it here on island…

I will be either moving to Toledo, Ohio or Chicago Illinois… Chicago has a Mini dealer, so no issues..but the closest one to Toledo is in Detroit (about 90miles away)…. Which really sucks incase of break-down… Mini said they would tow it to there, but they would not bring it back.. I’d have to go get it… For us Hawaii folks, it is like making 2.5 round trips from Makakilo to Downtown before you even got to a dealer...

Also the shipping quote is about $2300 from Honolulu to Toledo….

Hmmm… I don’t want too.. but might be better to sell it here…

Sorry to hear about that.
Do you have an allowance from work to move?
Sometimes your employer will permit your moving expenses to be covered up to a limit.

Otherwise, I'd say you're better off selling and then get something friendlier for your area rather than risk the expense and hassle should anything go wrong. You have better things to do.

I was looking into getting a car for my daughter in college in Indiana and there isn't that much support for a MINI in that area either not to mention she doesn't have time or know how to do the repairs.

Well.. We are moving to Toledo due to my family are all up there in that area and the price of houses isn't insane...:impatient can get a nice 3 bedroom house with 2 car garage, outside deck, jacuzzi on 1/2 acre for around $150-200K... Being in my lower 30s, it would be nice to get a house and settle in... Right now there are over 700 houses for sale in or near the suburbs I grew up in over there...

Second choice is Chicago due to the place is major city and jobs for me are about 10 fold vs. Toledo...plus about 5 hours drive from my family still...

I will most-likely be changing companies for new employment... and If I do sell the cooper, I'd be getting a Saab 9-3 2.0L turbo....

If you move to Ohio, there are only 3 places here that sell/service the MINI: Mentor [East of Cleveland], Cincinnati, and Dublin [a suburb of Columbus]. All of us MINI owners here face the same problem of distance, especially those of us who live away from the big cities. I live about 70 miles one way from Dublin. The Dublin dealer has been very accommodating and has even arranged for loaners when needed. I've bought 2 MINIs from them and wouldn't hesitate to buy another...someday.

Toledo is in the same void I am in...anywhere for service is gonna be a distance to drive.

Shipping from Honolulu to Long beach is 1075...and it's a nice drive to the midwest :P

My wife and I are driving from Milwaukee to CA, and then shipping the mini and flying out of LAX

Im in the same boat as you man. Hawaii is nice but oppertunity for a nice house and a yard, just is unheard of here. Its paradise and i guess this is the sacrafice you pay if your not from here.
