Well .... thats a bummer!

I got quotes from several body shops and finally selected Central Auto Body. My decision was made due to the fact that it was recommended by the dealer as where they send their work and their size. They are huge!

They estimated one week but actually had the car back to me in four days. My repair involved a new hood, so I'm sure the main paint was probably done before I even dropped off the car.

In any case, I feel comfortable in recommending them.

If someone gave you an estimate of three days for yours; that probably isn't for a new roof. Just the paint for that would take at least two. Must be a mud job.

Good luck! I feel your pain!

i'm getting my MCS tomorrow. i went to aiea collision. my main reasons was:

1. geico (my insurance) will honor a lifetime warranty on the paint job.
2. the guy who mixes the paints is one of the better shops in town (paint matching to me is as important as good body work).
3. my friends went there and loved the turn around time (if they didn't have to order my part from MINI, it would have been done in a week).

but i'll give you a full report later.

punchbowl

--You know I heard some bad things about them here and there, but the one thing that always came up was they are the most $$$expensive$$$. As in go to them to get the highest insurance quote so you can pocket the cash after an accident.

I am just going to pay the whole cost... my deduct is like $500 anyways... and I don't want this on my insurance... save that for when I really need it.

Jenny recommended Dent Doctors on Colburn... I guess a lot of BMW/Minis come thru there from the Dealer for repairs....

Onsite quote was a little over 6... but they have a coupon for 5% off so like $575 total...

Dent Doctors and Central are the two that MOH recommended to me. When DD kept me sitting and waiting for more than 45 minutes (they were late) to do my estimate, I decided to go with Central.

Almost all Body Shops use one of three estimating programs for repair quotes (as do the insurance companies). The big difference between them is thoroughness on required parts. If a repair is primarily paint, bondo and labor, them you can see some differences in shops doing a direct time and materials estimate. This is especially true if you have told them you are paying for it out of your pocket.

I agree with you re: the importance of the paint. Fortunately, my WINO was only three months old when the new hood went on so matching was not a problem. As the car gets older, the paint will fade and matching and blending becomes much more trouble.

I went to Central when I needed my whole passenger side done, and they did a great job matching the paint and doing a seemless job.

very true, i noticed that my MCS is darker then it was before. so in some sick way, my MCS had a repaint after 5yrs of service. most of my car carzy friends do touch ups around the 5yr mark, so i guess i kinda did it too...
