Aloha folks-

Need a little input here. It’s time to loose the S-Lites and run flats on my ’04 S-Works. I was considering Yokohama ANS ES 100’s (suggestion from a Bimmer buddy) and a set of ASA JH8 rims from The Tire Rack
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=AVS+ES100
http://www.tirerack.com/servlet/CallJsp?target=wheelSearchCloseUp&wheelIndex=9&siz eIndex=0&showRear=no&setIndex=1&filterSize=&filter Finish=&filterSpecial=

Daily driver car may try to hit some track sessions. What do you think? I’m trying to stay under $1600 as much as possible

• Any place on island with prices as good?
• Any other suggestions?

Aloha JCW04

John - I would say get the 17" Kosei K1s (16 lbs) with BFG KDW2s for @ $1250 shipped. If not the BFGs, I really liked the Yokohama Parada Spec 2s I had on my MCS. Those tires stuck like glue and the tread wear is better than the ES100s. I have a set of the ES100s on my M3 and they are sticky, but I hate the tire noise.

how about the classic minilites? you can get'em in 16's i believe, or 15's like me in white. a bastard to clean cause their white, but the look is so cool.

i plan on trying the bfg-kdw2's after my bridgestone so3's wear out, which i'm guessing is gonna be about the next tire rotation or 6k miles more. hopefully, costco will be carrying'em by then, so i can get my nitro fill up and free rotations.

i think my minilites were ~$1300 shipped, but 15" tires are a bit cheaper than 17". 15" so3's at costco were like $120 each. kdw2 are even cheaper.

i still got those 17" wheels i bought 2nd hand from mini-t. $500 wheels only.

Those Advans with the blue anodized lip would look hot on JCWs car!

JCW04,

Nice looking wheels. If you are planning to order from TireRack and want an all around tire that can handle some track time, I would suggest the Kumho MX tire. I'd say it was just as good as the ES100s on the street but much better on the track.

If you are not stuck on TireRack, I'd look at EdgeRacing and go for Enkei RP02 (now on sale for $92, from $205, and only weighs 15 lbs for 17") and put the Toyo Proxes T1R (this bundle is $879 but their shipping to Hawaii is $228 but still an awesome deal). BTW, they have the Flik FTD, which looks like the ASA wheel you chose but only 17 lbs and the bundle is $849.

But bottom line is, get what you like and you'll be most happy! Happy shopping.

Cool! More good stuff! I had thought about the minilites after seeing them on KBs car but I am SO tired of brake dust I want something either easy to clean or black/grey annodize etc.

I'll take a look at Edge Racing too.

Mahalo!

The entire Flik line is waaay cool! Thanks for the heads up on Edge Racing. Beatsmaster, I couldn't locate the Advans rims you mentioned. All I found was a Yokohama Advan tire.

Hope I'm not being dense here!

Aloha!

KB-

Those are a sweet set of wheels and a great price! Unfortunately I'm cash poor and credit card rich at the moment.

I'll see if I can juggle some cash and get back to you.

Aloha!

With a quick jump across the pond he says, "try these"

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ce+T%2FA+KDW+2

I've had both and if you compare the rating at Tire Rack (or Discount Tire) the KDW2 are rated better.

Earl-

Thanks bro! Nice looking option with some great reviews.

So . . . if I loose the run flats in exchange for some real tires I guess my only option is a can of fix-a-flat as I can't store a spare anywhere.

Anyone else have options/ideas?

Aloha!

I'm in So CA and I Drive Naked! (no spare/no fix-a-flat). We get further away from help than you can in Hawaii

You are a brave man!

I think my plan will be to stash one of my S-Lites in four locations around the island so at least I'm close to a spare!

...Or if you're any where near MINIlani, I'm sure you can find a spare between me and minihune's stock pile of wheels/tires

Aloha folks-

I wanted to thank y'all for your help in picking rims and tires, I really appreciate it!

So . . . DRUM ROLL! Promiss you won't laugh, I ended up at Lex Brodies on Queen Street yesterday.

I picked up four 17" Panther Intimidators and four BFG G-Force tyers including wheel alignment for $1156.00.

I had looked very seriously at Tire Rack and Edge Racing but after dropping by Lex B's yesterady I opted to buy local.

Which now means I have a set of four white S-Lites with beater Dunlops taking up room in my garage.

Three of the four wheels have various degress of curb dings. Two of the tyres are original (rears) with a little over 12K on them. One tyre (drive side) is shot and the last (driver front) was replaced last May after a bad run in with a pot hole on Nimitz Hywy, When I had the tyre replaced MoH found no problems with the wheel.

So . . . if you or anyone else is interested in a set of S-Lites I'm open to offers. Anyone need four good boat anchors?

I'll be listing these on a seperate thread.

Aloha!
