brake fluid

--Cool thanks for the info Barry! I actually just bought some this morning at Honda South Seas. Eeek it was $15 for a small bottle! I needed some for my Ninja as its brake fluid is mucho black. I don't think I ever changed it. I think I'm gonna go for the super blue for now. Then I'm gonna switch back to the yellow version of the same stuff before I have her annual maintenance done at MOH. Thanks again for the info to. Oh btw how much was the motul at those shops?

I've had trouble finding Motul RBF 600 brake fluid around in auto shops but at SL few guys said check out the bike motorcross bike shops- I did and they had it- out past wapio costco turn right at light & there are 2 shops on same road. It's not bike fluid specifically
I've used both super blue and Motul RBF 600 racing fluid- the motul is a bit higher boiling point but i've been told it absorbs moisture quicker- either are fine.

DIY session...

--Cool! DakineMINI can I change my oil there too? Oh yeah and if we have time a brake fluid change. I'm kinda more worried about the dirty break in period oil than the brake fluid tho. Becuz I probably won't hit superlap until March or April. I'm going to asia for 5 weeks! It's COLD in Japan right now! Let me know what you want me to bring. I have extra jack stands, and jacks if needed. Shall I bring coffee? They sell cartons of starbucks perfect for group shindigs. Let me know and I'll pick it up on the way.
Thanks for hosting DaKineMINI!

Pyratio,

We can do both, no problems! We are starting at 10am - I can have a pot of coffee made, and/or you can bring coffee. Do you have the oil filter? How about oil? I recently went from Mobil1 to Royal Purple (can get this at Daiei, Napa, etc.).

Sure, you can come down on Monday and we can take a look. BUT, if your car is new you might want the dealer to look it. We are meeting in Makakilo so pretty close to you (location shows as Pearl City). Let me know (PM) if you want to show up and I'll give you directions.

Dirk - Do you need the airtools? If so, I can drop them off with Barry this weekend.

I don't think we'll need them for the easy stuff we are doing. Thanks though. BTW, I figured out what my sqeaking was - car was too LOW. Tire was hitting wheel well in rear. Raised it and it's fine now - still looks low though.

I see Bimmerforums guys are doing a BIG diy on Sunday yeah (though that thread sounds like a chronic flashback thread now )? You going to that? They'll probably need your airtools then no? If you are not using the airtools though for a while, I wouldn't mind borrowing them.

BTW, you're always invited to come down and join us.

Thanks again man,
Dirk

Looks like we'll have erik808 (oil change), pyratio (oil change and brake fluid change), cwlouis (oil change), bgrpph (give everyone humbug), dakinemini (erase SES light), and also zoegirl87 (figure out what grinding noise is - probably brakes) at the DIY on Monday. Hopefully we'll be productive!

SPECIAL NOTE TO cwlouis..............make sure you wear an analog watch (for reference) so you can turn CW or CCW in the right direction. I told you I'd rib you on that one, from our last DIY - just kidding though.

Take Louis to eat at Ok Cho restaurant in McCully and you'll really have hime messed up. They have a collection of clocks that run counter clockwise.

As for the tools, I rarely use the air tools so I'll get in touch with Barry.

If you are due for brakes anyway, I'd say get them but without seeing what the sound is, I can't say. My guess is your pads are worn and you are scraping your rotors (which means you'd need pads and rotors ). You'd need two bottles of brake fluid too.

We'll have to tattoo that (righty tighty, lefty lucy) onto Louis' forearm.

Another DIY exclusive........cwlouis said he'd hook-up the attendees with their own MINI ID sticker. Everyone thank Louis! If you don't have your ID yet, get it before Monday.

LR-RL,

Bring the SuperBlue anyways (BTW, it's not used, just opened). Slighty used front brakes? Not the jacked-up ones?!?!?!?! Oh, that's right, you have another set. Bring it just in case zg87 needs 'em. Thanks. See you in the AM.

DIY went fine. The old wiring harness was spaghetti! We got the alternator and ac off as well as the mainfold and other parts. There was even a thought of taking the head off for porting and polishing. When done, that monster is gonna make more than the 288whp than it makes right now.
