MINI on water!
National Weater Service Honolulu still forecasting 35' to 50' swells on Leeward Coast and North Facing shores. Coupled with an unusually high 2.5' high tide tommorow morning we could be in for some serious action.
Gonna try and headout around 4:00 AM. Maybe I'll be the first amphibious MINI on Oahu!
Aloha!

you guys are crazy! i'd never go out in that stuff! watching would be fun, but even that is hazardous, as well as irking, as kam hwy is ridiculously packed with cars everytime one of these monster swells comes in. people checking out the action, others trying to park, others trying to turn, and surfers and beachgoers trying to cross the hwy. simply said it's a circus up there.
now if anyone is intending to brave the traffic to catch a glimpse, it may be a good idea to wait until later this week or next, as a series of XXL swells is said to be lining up one after another. if you're lucky, the crowds will have had their fill of wave-watching with the earlier swells. still, be careful of the roads, especially if you're driving your mini, as the roads are guaranteed to have all kinds of debris and literally crap strewn all over.
as for me, i got thru work at ewa beach ~5 pm and proceeded to check out the ewa beach-kapolei coast. unfortunately, the swell wasn't quite wrapping around over there, as sets were no more than shoulder-high. but conditions were pretty fair in the early evening and probably epic early in the a.m. lots of more swells will have a chance to hit that coastline in the upcoming week or two.
but tomorrow a.m. i can check out the other side of the island before work at 10 a.m. waimanalo-makapuu coast should be catching some nice wrap, even into the alan davis area near sandy's. and the conditions again should be epic. i even heard a fun town swell may pop up in the next few days. if so, the whole island should have waves, and at least in the a.m. should have epic conditions.

wow, the swell really dropped off today. cockroach bay was ok at about shoulder-head high at most, but i heard yesterday was quite a bit bigger. with near epic conditions. lots of guys were surfing the reef behind the pier and the old magnum house, as well as rabbit island. by today, a handful of guys were still out at rabbit island and maybe 10-15 at the bay.
forecast is for a few more swells to be lining up, back to back to back.
and just to let everybody know, my racks are working fine, even passing the 9'6 board test at 70 mph, although with little cross wind. i did discover, however, that one of the screws holding down the cross bar was loosening. easily fixed though by using the supplied star screwdriver after pulling up the outer portion of the grey rubber strip to provide access to the loose screw. found out it was loose in the first place, when i gave my strapped down board the shake test and noticed some rattling and movement from the front cross bar.
so those with roof racks...be sure to shake or lift up on the cross bars to checkk that they're firmly attached to the housings. otherwise, you might lose not only your cargo, but also the cross bars along with it.
