Speed Traps

You guys have some sneaky cops over here!!! I'm visiting, and staying in Kailua, and spotted the local cops up to no good several times today.

We were having smoothies at Lanikai Juice Company on Kailua Rd. this morning, and noticed cops just stepping onto the road and pulling people over. I was wondering how they were spotting them.

We were walking back to our car, and I saw the undercover cop, dressed up like he was going to the beach. He was holding his walkie talkie behind a newspaper, and radio'ing his buddies about which cars to pull over.

I didn't see a radar gun though, so I wonder how they can nail them for speeding without their real speed.

Then they moved to Lanikai, where it's 15mph, just as you go into Kailua. They had a woman there pretending like she was waiting for a bus or something, and she had her walkie talkie too!!!

Sneaky S.O.B's

wow, never heard of that one! using undercover buddies with walky talkys. maybe those walky talkys are actually undercover radar guns also. well, good thing i don't live or travel much to kailua town.

how you liking it over there? is this your first visit? with the hotter-than-normal summer we're having i imagine it's been heating up pretty good over in kailua. even the ocean has been warmer than normal these past 3 weeks, no matter if it's a dawn patrol or sunset session.

probably the sneakiest speed trap i've seen is where a cop with a radar gun is perched way up on the overpass over the freeway by kahala. then he tells his buddy who's waiting around the corner by the on-ramp to tag'em. i'm sure that method caught quite a few speeders, but for some reason i haven't seen them do that again.

It's our third time here; we've always stayed in Kailua. I really can't handle Waikiki... Aside from being way too expensive, it's overcrowded with tourists.. I'd rather just drive there for the day or a few hours.

This weather is fantastic, it was 112 in Phoenix yesterday, so I'm very happy to be here

This place is amazing to visit; it's really the only place that I get away from it all. When you lose track of what day it is, you know you're on vacation

Aloha and welcome to Hawaii

sambusik,

Next summer I'm coming over to Phoenix on a trip. Been there some years ago.

Thanks for letting us know about the police. Did you notice the 45 mph speed limit on H-3 freeway headed uphill from Kaneohe to town or downhill from the H-3 tunnel to Kaneohe? I can ride my bicycle that fast on that stretch downhill.

Have a safe vacation and looks like the weather is holding up for you.

My brother moved to DC in July and had the unfortunate discovery that they have speed cameras on Hwys and biways. At the end of the month he had 4 speeding tickets in the mail.

hafid and I will show you around Phoenix Get ready for some HOT weather!! At least it's dry heat (everybody says that, but it's still freaking hot!!!)

That 45mph speed limit on H3 is ridiculous . You can easily cruise at 80 on parts of that highway ...

Parts of it are nice and wide open... I've heard a rumor that a certain yellow and black 02 Cooper S was seen testing out the speed cutoff at 3:45am while "someone" was on their way to work at the airport.

I would have no idea who this person was though.

I do miss our car sometimes. Great handling (except for the ice-cream truck understeer!). Good lookin' car too.

I remember a few years back in CT the cops had a car in the break down lane w/ its hood up, and dry ice to stimulate an overheated radiator...w/ smokey holding a radar gun. W/ all the break down lane accidents up here in New England they've stopped doing this....

They're still rough in CT, lots of speed traps on I-95, and lots of unmarked cars, Camaro, Volvo, SUV, etc. They're all silver, though.
