A good friend of mine is in serious need for her illegal tint to get through a safety check. [Mine's 35%. Honest!] Any know of a shop/station known to allow this? If so, please PM me asap. If not, you're right... I'll eventually be headed for hell for being an enabler  . Many thanks in advance, gang

My friends do my safety check....it seems like it's all in who you know.

BUT, when i owned my toyota with 5%, i went to the 76 gas station on Harding, and they didn't even check. They didn't even look at my bald tires!!! I've heard they've gone through a management change, though. so you might want to be careful.

If she doesn't adopt a friend fast to hook her up with safety check in the future, she should just go back to legal tint. With this damn click it or ticket program, people with illegal tint are getting pulled over because cops can't see in their window. My friend and I both got tickets for our tint during the campaign (and it's on again right now, btw).

Anyways, if you can't find anyone, let me know and I'll ask my friends who give me safety check.

i don't mean to be mean, but...those who insist on getting illegal tint, then get stuck with figuring out how to pass the annual safety check, should be left to figure out for themselves what they did wrong.

sorry if this sounds malicious or downright nasty, but...there is a good reason for illegal shades of tint. 1) safety for the driver and others - at night it's practically impossible to see out when driving in darkly lit areas, 2) safety for cops - they can't see what's going on inside a car when approaching it. i know trucks and vans can be exempt from this tint rule, as long as they have both side mirrors; that's why i believe cops are always a little more careful when approaching such vehicles.

basically, illegal tint is illegal for safety reasons. bottom line. add to this, the fact that darkly tinted cars can attract more interest from potential thieves due to the higher probability that there are some expensive mods hiding behind the tint. so the disadvantages appear to far outweigh the benefits, if any.

my advice, although expensive...replace it with legal stuff. i do believe the cops are getting a bit more strict with these offenders.

good points kbseto......

Did I also mention that the ticket I got was for $99....and he only tagged me for one window. My friend (who was being a total *** to the cop) for cited for all 5 windows!!!!! That's a lot of money.

If you have darkly tinted windows you can always roll them down when getting near a checkpoint as they check for your seatbelt to be on.

They ticket if they find you are not complying with the state laws. It's pretty straightforward. The current campaign is for seat belt use but other infractions could be found such as illegal tint.

In all of the places I go for safety check they always check my aftermarket tint and charge an extra $5 to check it.

There is a legal way to get tint darker than 35%, but it takes some doing. If your eyes are sensitive to bright light, you can get dark tint on your vehicle. However, you must have a letter from your opthalmologist stating your sensitivity to bright light. My eyes are actually sensitive to the bright light and it feels like they are burning when they have been out in the sun too long and they start to get teary and blurry as a result. It felt that way at our Oktoberfest Run so I had to put up the top on the 'vert. No, I have not gotten a letter from my opthalmologist regarding that, but it's a thought.

REALLY?????? I have sensitive eyes....as a matter of fact, I'm supposed to wear dark glasses all the time to limit the amount of sunlight that enters my eyes (I might have some genetic eye disorder that could render me blind by age 50)....anyways, I'll have to look into this.

Thanks beast!
