i haven't heard of anyone using amsoil for their oil changes, mostly mobile1.

a patient just told me he takes his bike over to a guy in waialua for oil changes with amsoil. he talked to the guy, and said that the guy is willing to order the mini's grade of oil for any interested owners.

Amsoil is available by the quart in different multi grade weights like 5W-30 at Ron's performance shop for about $7.68 a quart. If you are interested in some I can sell you some I have extra up to 7 quarts. I called them and they are out of stock of the 5W-30.
Very good stuff. Redline is also good.

I also have an extra 7 bottles of Mobil 1 at $5 a quart in 5W-30 if anyone is interested. Let me know.

Krestek on Haouli Street in McCully carries Amsoil products. It is a home cleaning products store, but they have some hi perf stuff there. They have this Samurai octane booster along w/ 120+ octane Synergyn booster. I put the Samurai in my 5er with a couple gallons of 100 octane race fuel and boy did that wake up the car. Next fillup, I just used the Samurai and the car still pulls! Try it!

Wanna pump up your octane? Add moth ***** to your tank.
120+ Octane? For aircraft and high performance drag strip racers (like my MINI???)

Okay, minihune, I'm curious: why do mothballs increase the octane level?

Napthalene mothballs is an old racers trick to increase the octane of gas due to the energy expended when napthalene is burned.

FYI, Samurai booster is billed as liquid mothballs. I believe you can also use toluene as an octane booster.

Thanks, Beastmaster. I probably won't toss a few mothballs in my putt-putt car's tank the next time I fuel up, but that info could come in handy later.

You *do* learn something new every day!

kbseto,
Can you check the price per quart or case of amsoil 5W-30 weight which is standard for MINIs?
Please let us know how much it would be from that source on the north shore.
Thanks

What about getting it through NAM member Zappa?

He's at the Synthetic Warehouse (http://www.syntheticwarehouse.com/) he will get you a great deal! He is an NAM sponsor as well. IIRC he is currently running Amsoil in his car for a year without changing it (he is changing filters) and publishing periodic oil test results.

Oil is pretty heavy and the cost of shipping alone is usually prohibitive.
That's why we enjoy much higher prices for all goods in Hawaii.
Thanks for the suggestion. Shipping is roughly $1-2 per pound.

Ah so, this mainlander forget that detail. :???:

I still think Zappa is worth a call, I would expect him to work with y'all to get the best deal possible in order to nullify that shipping bone.

Break out the yellow pages and do some calling. The local CarQuest auto parts store carries Amsoil.
You may want to do some research though because Amsoil uses NEW oil for their tests. Redline is even more expensive than Amsoil but it far outperforms Amsoil and Mobil 1 in tests where the oil has actually been used in an engine. If you are like me and use your oil in an engine and not on some kind of ball bering test contraption, you should switch to Redline too.

Thanks for the suggestions. I pulled out the phone book.
Car Quest- No amsoil or Redline. They never stock it.
Independent auto parts stores- several. No amsoil or Redline. They never stock it.
Parts Plus (Kalihi and Waipahu stores). Do stock amsoil at $6.08 per quart but out of stock of 5W-30 for at least a month. No Redline.
Ron's Autoparts. Do stock Amsoil but out of stock for weeks to a month.

Enough said.
It's an island. They can unload only that which is on the boat that arrives.

Did you try Hawaii Import Parts? They may have Amsoil. Kresstek also has Amsoil. You could also try Royal Purple oil or Synergyn. Both are very good.

Redline oil is available on redline automotive on Waikamilo between Dillingham/King. Their prices are better than mail order if you buy a case.

Do you guys know Jason Randolph? He is a AMSOIL dealer on the islands. Otherwise I can ship it to you. I'll check with the Portland Warehouse for the latest shipping schedule. I can get you a reasonable price if you need anything. I am starting to get a lot of motorcycle customers out there from the cycle forum so there will be plenty of supply soon.

hey zappa,

thanks for checking up on us over here in the islands. haven't heard of jason, but alot of owners are chiming in with their amsoil sources. some have suggested redline. the dealer i have found has offerred $6/quart or $64/case. i believe that's the cheapest thus far. he's looking into filters for us as well, but said they'd probably have to be ordered.

That's a good deal but I could slightlty beat it if you wanted. I really don't want to take someone elses business unless you yourself became the dealer. A single case with shipping of 5W30 is $60.35. That's my cost. That's with $8.20 shipping. If you buy several cases we can bring the average cost down.

The 0W30 which is what we have the Ford Roush team using - best oil available!! Is $81.92 for one case including shipping. To send 4 of those cases (all have 12 quarts) it would cost $80.44 for me to ship each one. There is also the 4-gallon size that would save another $2 about...

P.S. I an getting married next summer and I think I'll have to head out that way when it happens!!
