Like a total noob i went and nicked a small portion of the body while swapping out the chrome rear light rings for black. No problem I thought, just drive over to the dealer for touch up paint. Parts man says they don't bring it in to the US and will have to have it custom made at a paint shop.

Anyone else experience this or have a source?

 

The parts guy is correct. BMW has a part number for the touch up paint but dealers in the US can't order it. Most dealers have a relationship with a local body shop to custom mix paint.

 

Things must have changed recently, most likely because Thunder Grey is now a standard color. I bought a touch up kit through my dealer (Schomp).

Color number is B58. The part number is 51 91 2 405 146.
