GP Sway Bars

I am an autocrosser and am looking for advise and suggestions on the best front and rear sway bar combination for autocross.

Please let me know if you have actually run the combination you suggest, and what you think of it.

Thanks

The usual solution for autocross is to put in a stiffer rear bar until you find the balance you want. More rear bar gives you less understeer/more oversteer.

Are you preparing to any particular rules? One bar would keep you in SCCA stock class (which the GP isn't eligible for anyway), or for the local BMW club, each bar is worth 2 extra prep points.

I'm not running a GP, so I don't have any direct experience, the GP is already supposed to have a stiffer rear bar from the factory. On our JustaCooepr with sport suspension got a larger rear bar adjusted to full stiff (+400% stiffer) and I still think it could be stiffer to get a bit more oversteer.

GP actually comes with the standard (non-sport) sway bars. The suspension geometry and coilovers are set up more for high speed track driving, and the car is very well balanced.

For auto-x, a RSB should help. I've run 19mm in several other MINIs, but have not touched the GP2 suspension so can't offer any real-world feedback.

We were surprised when we measured it,

17mm

Decided to leave it alone, first time out of 5 MINIs that we didn't upgrade the RSB.

I autocross as well and I'm thinking about adding a rear sway bar. I had an H-Sport Comp bar on my R53 but I'm wondering if their lighter bar might be more appropriate for the GP2.

On my GP #413 I am now using a H sport competition 25.5 hollow bar on the rear (stock front). The rear is is stiffest of the 3 hole settings. This seems pretty good to me in autocross. I would like a little more negative camber in the front. Let me know what you decide and how you like it.

I know it's not a ton of money but it looks like I'll be getting the bar prior to next summer's autocross season. I just found out I'm buying a new AC condenser for a house.

I'll let you know how I like it in the spring (if I remember to post)
