jack pad

How is the passenger rear jack pad mounted to the frame? Mine is loose and needs to be tightened but I don't see a bolt.

There is a plastic expanding rivet that is pressed into the jack point. If it's already flush with the bottom of the jack point you won't be able to get it any tighter. If a towing company removed it to hook the hole to tie your MINI down, they may have stretched the hole or bent it. It's sort of hard to hook the top of the rivet, but it can be removed and the area around the hole banged flat again. Even then it may still be loose. I have jacked up a lot of MINIs that had slightly loose jack points and it hasn't been a problem. They're cheap if you need to replace it.

Thanks Steve but I'm having a hard time envisioning this. So the frame has a hole and you press the rivit through the jack pad and into the hole? This is a Mini with 5K miles that has only been jacked up once by me to change rotors.

Correct. I've seen some that are just loose. It's not a problem if they just move a little and don't drop down or out when you pull on them.

You could always get the Texas Speedwerks jack pads and never worry about them again.

When I raise my car up I put the jack under the car and use the jack pads to rest the car on jack stands. There's a heavy metal tunnel under the car on both sides that's great for lifting the car with a jack.
