Thanks for researching & sharing the links.

I want to get a euro plate, but I'm not sure how I can swing having two front plates...I live in VA and we're required to have front & rear plates.

Nice link to see all the sites that waste natural resources for that front plate.

How up to date is that map? To my knowlege, TX recently (as in, within the past year) stopped requiring a front plate.

CA really needs to pull their heads out of their a$$es and eliminate the front plate. Of course, none of our Politicians want to give up that camera-light revenue. And really, with our inmate population and over-crowding issues what would they do with all their spare time? :impatient

There's a petition going, but no, you still have to have two plates

"Your vehicle must display two license plates, one at the front and one at the rear"

502.404. Operation of Vehicle Without License Plate or Registration Insignia

(a) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle, that have been:

(1) assigned by the department for the period; or

(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the period.

(b) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a passenger car or commercial motor vehicle, other than a vehicle assigned license plates for the registration period, that does not properly display the registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the license plates have been validated for the period.

(c) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a road tractor, motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer that does not display a license plate, attached to the rear of the vehicle, that has been:

(1) assigned by the department for the period; or

(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the period.

(d) Subsections (a) and (b) do not apply to a dealer operating a vehicle as provided by law.

(e) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $200.

Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.
If you've been following the controversy about the license plate frames lately, if you aren't "properly displaying" the plates, including not having plates, or having frames that obscure part of it, it's an arrestable offense. It also gives police probably cause to search your vehicle and your person.

I think having two plates IS a good idea...

If someone is road-raging you, it's damn near impossible to report the plate if they don't have one. NC doesn't require front plates and being road-raged is NO FUN...especially when they swerve across several lanes to exit the highway and you never get to see the rear plate!

Ironically, an old car registered as a "classic" is only issued one antique plate in Texas. There are some restrictions in use, though, so the likelihood of tripping the revenue cameras is minimal, I guess.

I totally agree with you. I've been able to turn in a couple of nuts that way.
