Higher Trade than New Mini
Higher Trade than New Mini
Has anyone ever traded in another car that was worth more than the Mini you were buying?
We are doing some car swapping in our family and the "left over" car is actually worth more than a base Mini we are considering for another family member (would be our 2nd mini). Odd circumstance but wondered how the dealer would handle this.
Specifically, if you had a car that via Edmunds or KBB said the car as a trade was worth say $25K and the Mini as equipped (with tax, license, etc.) cost $23K, would they give you $2K back? I know, that would be additional monies for mods, accessories, etc, I'm speaking "in principle" about how a dealer would handle this.
Appreciate your thoughts.

Its equity you have in the car you are trading in, so that is treated as money refunded to you. There is really nothing overly complicated about that. 98% of trade ins coming into a dealership, people are mostly üpside down"meaning they have negative equity in their cars as they owe more to the bank than the car is worth at the dealership.
Personally, I am very anti-trade in because I myself worked at a dealership and saw people getting low ball offers on cars that they could perfectly have sold them selves and get a few thousand more in return.
Trading in is just that..an expensive convenience.

I think that MINI dealers really low ball you because they don't want to deal with used cars. They wanted to give me $3k for my trade. I was quoted a $6k trade in on a new Honda Civic. I ended up selling it to Carmax for $5k. Bottom line is that you're probably better off doing it privately or at Carmax.
