Most all the times p-car owners give due props to MINIs. They are well regarded in the community.

(https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=67851 is from the Boxster board ...)

Very cool - I guess a car enthusiast recognizes quality whatever the marque! I've had a wide variety of "high end" car owners (Porsche, BMW, etc.) come up to me and ask about our MINI.

I am on a couple Porsche forums and it seems that quite a few of the folks have purchased a MINI as a daily driver/commuter companion to their Porsche or Ferrari. In fact, that is why I purchased mine.

I have never heard of the MINI spoken about with anything except respect. It is seen as a "momentum" car meaning that it is not incredibly quick 0-60 but once you get it moving it is great fun both in traffic and through the twisties.

So..... does anyone drive in any Porsche events? They seem to have a lot of Autocross for example. I've looked at the Riverside and San Diego PCA web sites.

I had a driving instructor in a Porsche GT3 track car (cage, helmet in back) walk over, start a conversation, and tell me his Mini was "more fun than (pointing at GT3) 'that' is...". Great guy, met him while cycling in a local park, he's an avid runner.

I don't know, though... If I had a "that", I'd refer to it as "Your Highness", or "Sir", or something. Not simply "that"!

I got the same thing from an S4 driver a few weeks back on a weekend drive on my local twisties. I was turning off the best local twisty road as he was turning on - respect was given both ways as we both knew why we were there.

And I had my 7 and 10 year old boys in the back.

AlpinaMike, let me know when you plan to come downhere and I'll introduce you to your MINI 'amigos" in the "Magic City"...

There are plenty of high dollar cars around here. Today I saw a couple of Aston Martin Vanquishes, yesterday I was following a Lamborghini in traffic and Bentleys and Rolls Royces can be seen almost everywhere.

Generally I receive good response from the driver's of these machines. The road "jerks" seem to be Chevy SSR drivers (Geriatric men, with rotten attitudes, foul mouths that think they are driving the fastest rocket on the road), and most anything made in Japan. SSR driver's HATE to be passed by a MINI. I had a road rage incident a couple of weeks ago with a SSR driver that lowered his window and began to shout all kinds of profanity at me just because I passed him on an expressway entrance ramp. I didn't even cut him off. The old man (In his late 60's or 70's) was acting like a 12 year old kid. Scary and funny at the same time. This was a bright yellow SSR. Funny thing, the very next day I see another yellow SSR appear on my rear view mirror, but it wasn't the same guy. It was driven by yet another old man. What are the chances of you seeing 2 bright yellow Chevy SSRs in less than 24 hours, points miles apart in the city...geez!

I just ignored him. Too many idiots with loaded weapons in this city to try my luck.

No need to ... your so low and RAVs are so high ... we dont SEE YOU

Thats the thread I referred to in post #3 and originally posted in March, 2005 ... your a year behind

Did you catch"They may be fast, but they're still clown cars"

More significantly is the part about any car losing another in the twisties. There is a post near the end that explains it well, even a 115 HP Miata can keep up with a Carrera in the twisties. So its not clear what this means at all. R&T has the Boxster S that guy was driving with the fastest Slalom times ever recorded beating an Enzo that had held the record.

I am NOT taking anything away from Onasled ... he rocks ... but in general ... when you see these kind of video and ... oh lookit me in a MINI blowing away a .... whatever... It means nothing. Its NOT a real race. Its NOT much of anything. Put the same driver in both cars, in a real race ... no contest.

There is an infamous video going around now with a F430 driver trying to chase down a Z06 ... and can't ... and he's pisssed. Duh.

No, I was posting the link so newbies knew what you were talking about.

Chows, if you're on a track, your competitive drive is not going to like being passed, unless it's by something acknowledged to be a lot faster than your car. Doesn't matter a whit what level anyone is at or even if it's a real race. If you've got an $80,000 Porsche, being passed by a Mini, regardless of the mods, is galling. That comes from friends have in PCA. People have been shot in Europe, when a supposed "lesser" car passed it's supposed "superior."

It means everything in relation to the psychology of many drivers.

There was a very quickly thrown together Porsche event that DCMM was invited to. We are working with the Porsches for another joint run.
