Mini needs new engine

I have a 2010 Mini S with a bad engine. The body is chili red with white top. The body is in excellent shape, so is the interior. Cost of replacing the engine is $6,000 - $8,000.
Is there a market for my Mini with a bad engine? Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Well, the two main options would to sell it VERY low to someone willing to fix it, or part it out (big hassle). If was me, I'd just donate it. Our local NPR station will pick it up and do the paperwork. Would just use the tax deduction (but that's just me being lazy).

Where are you located and why do you think you need a new engine? Many times "new engine" means "I don't want to deal with it" or "I have no idea". Several on this forum could probably fix whatever is wrong with yours. Pics would help. Post up the diagnosis and we can probably help.

Pull the engine and rebuild with better parts. For me hopefully it would be a dad/daughter build.

You could get on car-parts.com and search for engines at salvage yards in your area. In my area there are a couple 2010 S engines in the $3,000-4,000 range. More expensive then I would have thought. Then you can change it out yourself if so inclined or find someone to do it for you. I bought a 2011 Honda Insight engine last year for $350 from salvage yard I found on the site and put it in an Insight we bought with a bad engine. Its been running great for my daughter since. The guy I bought the car from said the dealer was going to charge $2500 (if I remember correctly) for a used engine and installation.

You can also look on FB marketplace and Craigslist for people parting out cars to find an engine.

It probably comes down to how much you liked the car as to whether you want to invest the time and money in fixing it or just move on.

mildensteve is exactly right -- there are a number of stories on NAM in which a dealer tells someone they need a new engine and the owner fixes the problem for a few hundred dollars. Dig a little deeper and you may be pleasantly surprised. On the other hand, maybe you need a new engine. :(
