I don't currently own a Mini, but I'm looking for another one. When I met my wife she had a R53 with sport suspension, and I fell in love with MINIs about the same time I fell in love with her! We sold that car in California before moving to NY state. And so now I'm looking for another one. Probably a Coupe, non-turbo, stick shift. I know that kind of puts me in a strange group of enthusiasts, but I race Miatas and a Yaris, so I know all about cars with no power. I also like oddball cars like the BMW Clown Shoe, and so the MINI Coupe is kind of my thing. I'm looking for one with low miles and the right color scheme.
I belong to a country club in central NY state, Pineview Run. The country club doesn't have tennis or golf or anything like that, it has a short and technical race track. It's perfect for smaller cars, and I'd like to organize a Mini-only event sometime this year. I'm not sure if this will be something as simple as a discounted track day for Minis, or something more elaborate like a 2-day event with vendors, sponsors, etc. I'm open to ideas of all shapes and sizes. I don't work for Pineview Run, I'm just a member who wants to see a Mini event happen because this is the right car, and the right bunch of enthusiasts, for our track.
We have MINI’s at the Glen in June typically which is a MINI only day at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, NY. It is sponsored by Towne MINI in Buffalo, Rochester MINI and MINI USA. There are 400 MINI’s, laps on the track, music, and food. The laps cost $25.00 and it goes to charity. Tremendous fun. You can join Facebook “MINI’s at The Glen”, ROC City MINI, Whine Country MINI (Finger Lakes), or Western New York MINI which are clubs that provide friendship and continuous updates as to MATG, MINI takes the States, and other events to attend. A good one is MINI’s trip to Letchworth Park.
