I have an 02 mini cooper r50 with cvt. I'm having issues upon issues. The EML lights comes on and the car runs like absolute dog crap, most of the time if I shut the car off and restart the light goes out and all is well. Sometimes and more often here lately the restart doesn't help. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what causes the light to come on. sometimes I go for days with a single issue and others I cant get out of the drive way. to make things worse I also have a problem with my OBDII port. Every scanner I've tried says unable to connect so I can't pull codes. I cant afford to take it to someone and pay for hours and hours of diagnostic. I'm hoping someone on here may have some suggestions, I am moderately mechanically inclined so I can do most work myself just dont know where to start and feel like id be wasting both time and money just throwing parts at it till something sticks..

 

Have you tried our schwaben tool? I had the same problem with actron and other autozone type scanners, it would not connect or read, The schwaben one pulls the MINI specfific codes.
