Just got my '14 JCW vert with the fancy nav and whatnot. Looking at the dash...I see pretty much a tach (well, kind of, it's hidden behind the wheel), a worthless "openometer", and a goofy speedometer. I figured that surely the coolant/oil temp, voltage, etc were buried in a hidden menu somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Am I missing it, or does it really not exist?
Who would think to research that (wow, aren't you smarmy!)? I've driven hundreds of cars made over decades. Never seen this. However, I do know that all of this info is known to the car, and it would be trivial to have it available through the display. It's also of course available through obd...
Nope.... no gauges! The easiest solution is a scan-gauge or using dash command or torque on your mobile. It actually works pretty well. I use a custom set of gauges in dash command that I made in the app, and a Prosport EVO boost gauge with an NM boost tap.
I like it this way because there is just the tiniest bit of lag that I’m totally fine with.....except with boost pressure. I want instant feedback with no lag for that.
Hi Nola, I come from many Toyotas and BMWs (still have my 2004 e46 ZHP-m sedan) and just got my 2013 Countryman All4S-m two weeks ago. They are both great cars with different personalities. Yeah the BMW has gauges, but lacking cup holders...the R60 has great cup holders and a giganto speedometer but no little gauges . Was considering one with the Nav because of the No Gauge issue. Yeah its kinda annoying but with an OBD2 adapter and a phone and you get so much more information. They are both fun and comfortable in very different ways. Love them both.
Yes the Scangauge is the easiest way to add real gauges. I run one in each of my cars and use it for coolant temp, batt voltage, intake air temp, and actual speed. But with a '14 you can get oil pressure on it so it's even better. https://www.waymotorworks.com/scangauge-ii.html
I made my own gauge mount. I have oil pressure, water temperature, boost/vacuum and oil temperature. I used Marshal gauges, that match the stock oem gauges.
You can buy everything you need from Cravenspeed.
https://www.cravenspeed.com/ they have changed their website, Just look for gauges and adaptors and you will find everything you need.
Wow, those are some cool installs. More time than I'm willing to commit though. Main thing is I want to know when the engine is up to temp before I drive it hard. Most oem gauges are basically idiot lights anyway. I saw that the computer has hidden menus like my e46 (which also has cup holders btw) but that's impractical. There are a bunch on Amazon that I might try. Other thing is that I'm planning on experimenting using mid grade and eventually regular gas at some point; I'd like a boost gauge and real time ignition timing to see if either is affected. I've read that the waste gate is electronic, but no info on whether it's activated by engine knock. Any suggestions on where to mount my scangauge since I have the JCW aux gauges on either side of my speedo? I also run a Valentine1 radar detector under my rear view mirror lol
shrevemini is using our scangauge mount. We'd need to customize it for you a bit since the JCW pods would take the place of the spacers that are pressed into the bracket, but we'd be glad to help with that. The whole things takes less than 10 mins to install. https://www.cravenspeed.com/scangaug...r55-2008-2015/
Another option to get gauges easily, besides the ScanGauge, is to just get a little dongle for the OBDII port and send the info to your phone. https://www.cravenspeed.com/obdii-connector/
Once you plug that in, you can put the phone in a heads-up position and it can be your gauges and GPS as well. (No interference with the always useful openometer) https://www.cravenspeed.com/gemini-p...r57-2009-2015/

CS hooked me up to allow my phone mount an scangauge on the same mounting bracket .Love there products.
Pretty slick for such a cheap unit. Change the gauge color to match my gauges. 5 min install. Doesn't need a separate power source. Very unobtrusive, doubles as an obd2 reader, and you can watch live data. You can also set it to alarm over certain parameters. What's missing:
1. Boost. I have MAP, but forgot to check whether it went over 1 bar or not under boost.
2. Oil pressure. Weird, is that not in the obd2 dataset somewhere?

Ended up with this

An OBD2 PID (parameter ID) for oil pressure is not defined. There is one for oil temperature.
Oil pressure might be available via a BMW/MINI proprietary PID or it is present as a message on the CAN bus. With a proper CAN message filter configuration this message can be received and the info in it decoded and then presented to the gauge interface.
Ok, yeah, my MAP did hit 26-27 psi under brief full throttle (I would think it would be more than that?)
Also may have found my first expensive repair! Coolant temp isn't getting over 180'. I'll start a new thread in the gen 2 forums. (Gee, would have noticed that on the test drive if there had been a...gauge)
