Posting this here instead of the individual forums and would think the issue would be very similar.
I have some searches but have not found anything that details the installation of a rollbar not cage in the Cabrios. I do see where Autopower alludes to installation of their 61351 possibly allowing the seats and top to remain. Anybody have any info on this matter?
Never seen one in person, i heard of people trying to do this and then never did. Reason bearing if that in the Gen1 its fixed and most tracks at the time approved it a roll bar system that clears the driver's helmet, not so much on the gen 2 as its not fixed.
There are videos of the R52 in rolling crash tests and it performed very very well but I would still feel much better with another metal pipe above and closer to my head. I am going to try and contact Autopower.
Is the installation of the additional roll-bar for just normal daily driver protection, or for tracking the car?
I have wondered if a roll-bar would clear the operation of the folding top, I was going to build a cardboard tube cage and test it, to see if the clearance issues arise. but since then most track events now preclude convertibles unless it is a full cage I abandoned the idea and started to focus on just building a street legal dedicated track car ... but because I ended up with three MC40s I have not brought myself to use one of them so my plans still require yet the acquiring of another R53.
But I do run the Schroth Racing Rallye Belts in my R52 to keep me in the car should I become a projectile during a spirited drive.
No tracking and yes I do use a Schroth whenever I make some spirited runs, I strongly urge anyone that has a Cabrio MINI to wear a Schroth if doing anything like the Dragon or other twistie type run. I will call Autopower today and see what they have to offer. Their street bar is around $550 and for me it would be money well spent if the top would still function.
Cannot find anybody that has cabrio braces. Although Autopower says the bar is for R50-56 when I talked to them I was treated like some idiot for even asking the question on whether it would work on the convertible.
This is what I have been thinking of and I have contacted a North Carolina company that does roll bars and cages, Hard Dog. This would work only on a Gen1.
