I get the idea and like it, but man, that is a lot of unnecessary miles to put on a car.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread on this yet. I'm going all the way from Portland. Already got all my lodging booked.

Cars were built to be driven. Plus, a week+ road trip with some of my good friends is certainly not unnecessary

For real. I've never done his kind of road trip. I'm driving from NYC to NC, picking up a friend and his MINI, then going all the way baby. I'm picking up a co-pilot in New Orleans. Can't wait for this adventure.

Back to OP, this will be my first time. Driving from NYC to Orlando, and going to CO. Then going back home. Can't wait.

I'm considering doing the run from Florida, travelling down a few days early to visit my brother. It depends on whether my then-new wife will be cool with me setting off across the country for two weeks.

Maybe hit the Dragon on the way down or on the way back from Colorado.

Hit the Dragon on your way home or on the way down. You won't regret it.

Meh, it's just a machine. It's only about an oil change worth of miles, it'll survive.

I haven't done that yet, need to confirm I'm going.

We already have the lodging booked for Keystone, and are deciding if we should go into Portland and along for the ride.

Keystone's only about 2 hours away and family in Pdx so might just have to make this happen.

We are going to do the the MTTS18 Also. Driving from Kanasas City Missouri, to Atlanta, spend the night at some friends house we met on Mtts16 than drive on down to Orlando. We plan on skipping OKC and Dodge City, being from the MidWest no Desire to see those Cities again. Plan on skipping over To Santa Fe from Dallas, and hit the East to West group up to Key Stone. Not sure if that is allowed. But a trip is a trip. :-)

I know of a whole group of East Coasters that are going from Dallas to Santa Fe. Myself and a group will be skipping Los Angeles on the west run and heading to Vegas for the night instead then joining back up in Flagstaff.

We're going Sacramento to Vegas, skipping LA. Gonna get to Vegas, then head out early and cruise route 66 and hit the Grand Canyon then rejoin everyone in Flagstaff.

I feel like the West coast route would be much better if it stayed in southern Utah and into Colorado instead of Arizona and New Mexico. Southern Utah has Zion, Bryce, Arches, Moab, Monument Valley, and you can run down to the Grand Canyon Northern Rim. If I was running West Coast, I'd be headed that direction.

Goings far south and far northwest this year, I have done every one of them before since 2006. For years people wanted the northwest to be involved, looks like this is the year. Might not make it this year as it's not very close to Ohio. But things might change.

MTTS 2018 Hotels

I'm planning to go from Portland to Santa Fe. Which hotels are the Miniacs staying on the route?

I'll be doing the entire East route. My real dilemma is which car to take. My F54 did all of MTTS2016, and it's a great touring car. Very comfortable ride, especially great for highway cruising. My R58 is worlds more fun to drive, though. But with so little room in it... It will be a tight fit for me and my copilot. And the ride is so much stiffer... But it would be great to have it in the mountains!

I’m in - Sort of ...

I’ll be getting back to the Fort Lauderdale area after a family vacation ( the great oxymoron) the week before the rally leaves Orlando. My plan is to drive up to Orlando Friday night. Stay at the “sanctioned” hotel and head for Tallahassee Saturday with the launch party Saturday. On Sunday I do the Irish exit and sneak back to Fort Lauderdale and resume my less exciting life.

I can’t say it will do for you what it will do for me. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

So where does the West route actually start? I live in Portland and there are many places that could host a large number of cars. My first assumption is that it starts at the dealership. Anyone actually know the start points other than the city?

can't wait for July to come. My first long road trip. Going with 3 other friends all driving together. My car just hit 70K this morning. Gonna take it in for scheduled maintenance. Want to make sure he is good to go for the trip. I need a camera to document everything.

My husband just saw this on a local MINI dealer's site (we're looking for a Justa for our son). So excited for this event- it's a short (comparatively), and beautiful drive from our house.

Having done most of the Eastern route, I am planning on driving the Western route. My plan is to start at Ashland, OR and follow that route to Santa Fe. From there, I'm going to link up with the Eastern group at Dodge City before heading back to FL. Unfortunately, I will not make Keystone due to the need to get back home by a certain date.
