'08 mini windshield washers

2008 Mini Clubman. Windshield washer works poorly. Sputters after long delay, I suspect a leaky hose. My real question: what is small inline fitting before the sprayer? A check valve?? Also, what is electrical connection for? Pardon my ignorance, I'm new to the Mini world!! Thanks, Mike

My 2010 R56 had a faulty check valve that dribbled, I replaced it with a common white plastic T fitting available at any hardware or auto parts store. It could also be a weak pump; try disconnecting the tubing before the check valve and running the washers to see what kind of flow you get. The washer nozzles could also be plugged but it seems unlikely all 4 nozzles would be plugged simultaneously. Good luck.

The washer jets are heated. That's why they have wires. Linked to what they look like and try cleaning them
