'09 Clubman is giving me odd dash indicators warning; low inflation when tire pressure is above 36 psi and icy road conditions when it's well above freezing. Today I got a new one, automatic shifter lever lock. These dash indicators issues have been ongoing for several months.
Any insight on why I'm getting these false warning? Are these signs that my battery is on the way out? No idea when the battery was replaced. I've owned it for three years. Otherwise it's running like a boss. TIA
Since you've owned the Mini for 3 years, the battery is probably at least 4 years old, I would go ahead and replace it. A marginal battery will play havoc with the electronics..
no one is saying there's anything wrong with your charging system
what's being said is a battery failing in 4 years is NOT uncommon. AND you need to be careful of 'checks' cuz the battery might test 'good' but your MINI may not agree!
note that with MINI, when you hit 'start' you are NOT closing a switch to send electricity to the starter and crank the engine. Rather, you send a command to the computer ASKING the computer to start the car.
In the old days (or on my 79) a weak battery meant to got a sluggish crank, or nothing ...
TODAY if the computer does not see all GREEN on its checks it does nothing .... and WORSE if the power sent to the computer when you 'woke it up' was weak you can get ALL SORTS of weird things happening as the computer goes bezerk.
A fresh battery is usually the cure ... and a good way to verify is by jumping with a known good source ..
If your car has the original battery the probability I'm right rises 10 times .... been around this block SEVERAL times
