OK to put charger on a Mini battery?

Not sure with all the interconnected electronics on a Mini... I was going to do a maintenance charge on the Roadster's battery today, since the weather and roads have been pretty messy the last couple of weeks or more. Then I thought, should I disconnect the battery from the car, or is it ok to clip the charger on the battery while connected? Positive terminal and a ground in the engine compartment OK? I imagine that disconnecting the battery would result in a bunch of resets?

It's an automatic charger, and was going to leave it on overnight since our cold temperatures have moderated the last 2 days.

Any suggestions, experieces or advice greatly appreciated.

I used an automatic charger on my battery a half a dozen times over the course of 4 years and never had an issue.

I put a battery charger on mine from time to time also with no problems.
