R53 Best Track Pads?

All,

It's been about 12 years since I've done track days, all in BMWs. I always used HAWK Blues back then, which don't seem to be available for my R53 JCW.

What do you all recommend? I don't think I need anything too aggressive.

Also, ATE Super Blue fluid seems to have disappeared as well so Type 200?

Thanks and best regards.

PS The front fitments are the same as R56 S calipers, correct?

Hi dhoyle and fellow R53 owner!

Here's an application guide that should help:

EBC Yellows are great for the track:

EBC Reds are great for all-around use but maybe not so much for the track:

Castrol Racing Brake Fluid is the best:

Motul Racing Fluid also very good:

If you're looking for a great track pad the Ferodo 2500s are fantastic. They're a dirty pad, but they are my favorite stock fitment pad.

If you're looking for something less dusty and less stopy you could go with either the SP Performance pads or the Hawk HPS, but the SP seems to stop a bit better than the Hawk for about 20% less money and a bit more dust.

Yes, the stock G2S front brakes are the same as the front G1 JCW.

ATE Blue was outlawed for street registered cars due to the possibility of someone not knowing what their car was leaking, so ATE 200 is the legal option. What fluid you choose depends on your braking needs, we have plenty of folks on the 200 and they are fine at the track, it all depends on how you brake.

I change my brake fluid every year before we head to the dragon, so I don't worry too much about my boiling points, (not to mention as a vendor down there you don't have much time for extracurricular activities.)

Forgot to include Carbotech. You have six grades to choose from, including three different track pads!

Hi guys, Sorry to revive an old thread. Would upgrading to track pads be better than upgrading to R56 calipers with oem pads?

thanks,

In a word, "Yes". Hawk DTC 60 or Carbotech XP10 or 12. I'd suggest new rotors (just plain ones) or take emery paper to yours if not too worn. If you're serious, you need to remove your backing plates and add some air ducts.

Thanks for the response and the recommendations. This is better for me as it allows me to run in stock autocross class.
Thanks again, Trackrat.
