PlastiDip Trim + Car Washes

Good evening

I'm about ready to Plasti-Dip all of the chrome trim on my R56s (Grille trim, headlight trim, tail light trim, gas cap, side scuttles, maybe emblems. Door Handles I'm buying covers and belt line I bought Outmotoring belt line kit).

So for you guys that have plasti dipped your trim/wheels/whatever, how does it hold up in car washes? Like those touchless ones or any kind of car wash you drop your car off and it goes through the wash area/cycles?

Anything I should avoid/look for?

Thanks
G

Most guys avoid car washes like the plague. They are he!! on MINIs. All kinds of woeful tales of things broken, swirls and holograms on the finish and worse. And, plastidip will peel off pretty easily if encouraged.

Yea sadly I dont have a garage or driveway or anything but I have seen those car washes stations where you pay for the hose/water/vacuum and you do it all yourself, maybe thats what I need to do. Buy some good cleaning kit and do my own washes from now on. :\

There are also car washes with scantily clad females 'bent' on lowering their self esteem. I'd just be cautious about how clean their wash water and mitts are.

Plasti dip isn't the strongest stuff. I have it on all my black moldings. I have to take them all off every year, remove the old plasti dip and reapply it. I'm honestly getting tired of the stuff and will be switching to painted moldings next year. I would personally stay away from plasti dip. As for car washes, I would only do hand car washes if you don't have the means to do it at your house. I took my car to one automatic carwash once and spent the next 2 days buffing and polishing my car. I don't let those automatic carwash's touch any of my vehicles.
