2009 MINI Cooper S: non-running value?

I am the owner of a 2009 MINI Cooper S that unfortunately is in need of a new engine. My mechanic quoted approximately $7000 to replace the engine all in, so I feel I need to sell or trade in the vehicle. What I'd like to know is how what the car would be valued at in it's current condition, or how to calculate the value of a vehicle. Any assistance with this question would be greatly appreciated.

You will get about 2500 trade at a mini dealer depending on mileage/condition.

Whats actually wrong with it? I have fixed a couple of these cars that have needed "new motors". Seems like many jump to that vs fixing the problem at hand.

Thanks for the response. Someone else had told me around $2000. I probably won't be going with a trade in on another MINI. One reason being that there is no local dealership. The issue with the car is that it was driven with very little oil.

What are the symptoms now? Is the engine seized? Used motors are out there. Check car-parts.com

The S motors are actually cheaper new as they have single vanos. Not sure how that carries over to the used engine market.

Thanks so much for your insight, I do appreciate it! I ended up trading the MINI in for $2000. I had looked into used motors, but decided I at this time I needed to get a bigger car because I have twin four year olds who were growing out of the MINI. Thanks again.

Similar Predicament

Hey all, I'm in a similar predicament as well. I love having the Mini, but at this point, the cost of upkeep is getting ridiculous. My Mini was overheating and the battery wasn't charging and we determined that it was the crankshaft pulley not working properly, so the water pump and alternator weren't running properly either. The Mini certified mechanic recommended changing the crankshaft pulley, front timing cover, belt, and battery. On a separate note, the car needs new front lower control arms/bushing assemblies as well as four new tires and an alignment. In total, they want to charge me about $6,500 - $6,750 for all the work which is about half of what we paid for the car like three years ago (it's a 2015 2-door hardtop hatchback base model).| Are the repairs worth it? To me they don't seem to be worth it and I was looking to offload the car, but I am not an experienced MINI person, so I wanted to ask some professionals. Any insight is appreciated. Thank you, all.
