Battery Change 2012 Mini Cooper

How long does it take to change out the battery? I've had my car there since yesterday morning and it's now been a day and a half! The service man told me yesterday that I could pick it up late afternoon only to tell me that they needed to put my car 'to sleep' to be sure everything is ok with the battery. Well it's now the next day and I'm still getting the same run around? I'm beginning to think it's something more than just needing a new battery. Is this the norm? Thanks

Its does not take long to change the battery, the top cowel and everything is about the hardest part.

Sounds like it might need reset or the functions of the car still don't work with a new battery ? Like they thought that fixed it ?

Battery should take about 30 minutes, but there is a procedure done on the computer system when a new battery is installed. Can read up about it at post #10 in this NAM thread here. Sometimes shops get backed up and are poor to communicate with people, but that does seem a bit long for just a battery replacement. I would call and ask.

A battery is a pretty simple job shouldn't take that long. And it doesn't need to go to sleep after replacing so it doesn't sound right at all. The battery does need to be programmed to the car. And if it did really need to go to sleep that only takes 16min.

I just had the battery replaced at the dealer in my '12, took about an hour. Invoice showed they did some reprogramming for the battery. Just curious, had you made an appointment?

Our mini is almost 4 years old, I replaced the battery purely as a preventative measure. Here in Phoenix, the summer heat cooks them pretty fast..
