Bench test a used a/c compressor?
There are numerous companies out there rebuilding/remanufacturing a/c compressors, and I assume they have the ability to 'bench test' their units, i.e. test without installing in a car. Before I go to the trouble of installing a used a/c compressor that I bought from a fellow member on NAM - who assured me it was good - I would love to confirm that. Anybody know of such a place, particularly in the WashDC area?
put power to the connector for the clutch and test the clutch function; then just spin the compressor by hand while covering the ports to make sure it has compression. Not very scientific but it will give you a good initial impression.
There's not a good way to test it off the car.
What I do with all the MINIs we part out is I get them running and turn on the A/C and verify it works before taking it apart. That way I know 100% it was good.
I just pulled one off a car.
