I've been to a couple different muffler shops to have the resonator and second catalytic converter replaced with pipe, and both quoted me at $80-$100 for the resonator ONLY. Neither shop would touch the second cat. Even after explaining the fact that it isn't needed in detail...

Does anyone know of a shop in the Chicagoland area that will do it? Specifically near the NW suburbs or Wisconsin border. Thanks in advance!

 

If a shop removes a cat & gets found out it will cost them $$$$$. I totally understand them not wanting to do that for you. You could pull your plates, trailer it in & tell them it is a race car that won't be used on public roads. Carry the exhaust in without the car & tell them the same thing. That's all I've got.

 

I was actually considering this. My only concern is that being modified off the car may cause the exhaust to not fit properly when put back on. It looks like this is my best bet unfortunately...

 

That is a possibility, but if the shop is any good it should work out OK.
