I will be so glad when halo rings are no longer a thing.

I think the halo rings are here to stay. Kind of like a driving light. They are LED so they'll last and be lighter than a incandescent bulb. And if not a true halo, at least a long strip. Witness Audi, Chrysler, MB, and who knows what else these days.
