2008 Mini Cooper base queries ( not the S modelm

hello. What should I be concerned about with regards to the 2008 Mini Cooper base model (not the S model). Would an automatic transmission be safe...What year did they make improvements to the Mini Cooper base...What year should I not look at.
I have asked a few questions regarding the reliability issues of the Mini...I want to get a much information as possible and be educated before I make a purchase. I thank you for any information.

It sounds like the Aisin autos are pretty near bulletproof, and won't have issues with the clutch wearing out prematurely like the manuals sometimes have. And all in all, the "Justa" seems to be the reliable motor of the MINI line.

As general advice: Get the newest and best-maintained car you can afford. I bet that the 08 would be fine, but I think an '11 would probably be even better...
