Service Light
Service Light
Our 2013 MINI just had the "Service" light come on at start up (it goes off after start up).
We changed the oil and filter at 4K miles and there are only a little less than 6K on it now.
We were planning on having the oil and filter changed again at 10K and every 5K after that.
With less than 2K since our last oil change we really don't want to drive 200 miles (round trip) to have it serviced and would rather wait until it reaches 10K miles.
We don't want to do anything that could affect our warranty though so what should we do, call Mini Cooper to have it serviced or just ignore the "Service" light?

Since our MINI has less than 6K miles on it, I assumed the only reason the "Service" light came on was due to it passing the one year mark without service.
It's not throwing a code or anything just the service light at initial start up disappearing thereafter.

OK, called Mini Coopers service manager and explained that the service light had just come on and did the on board service check and the only thing it was showing was oil to be changed back in 2013 which I had changed the oil and filter @4,345K miles in October of 2013.
The sales manager told me to ignore the "service light" and bring the Mini in for the two year service in January of 2015.
Sounded good to me and I asked him how many miles were required between oil changes and he told me between 15,000 and 18,000 miles.
Really?
I told him no way in hell would I ever let a car of mine go that long between changes and that Mini could do whatever they wished but my oil and filter were getting changed every 5,000 miles.
I thought Mini Cooper had come (somewhat) to their senses and changed the oil and filter to every 10,000 miles?
Go figure.
