Reattaching Badging?

My wife was washing her/our MINI Clubman S and somehow hooked the S on the back door with her towel and pulled it off. Our Clubman is a 2008, so it's been through a lot of washes and was probably hanging by a thread already.

I've researched buying just a new S emblem, but it appears they only come as a set as - COOPER S. I've also seen the 3-M tape advice, but that looks like a lot of trimmimg to fit the backside of the small S. I've read that some people use an appoxy like super glue, but others have warned that may harm the paint and make it impossible to remove later on it needed.

So my question to all you MINI onwers is - what is your technique to reattach your badging?

3M tape

I suggest 3M tape. This is similar to what was used originally, and won't damage the car's paint. I've done this with the individual letters on my VW Passat when I had some paint work done. It's a bit of a pain as you suggest, but better than damaging your MINI's paint. A roll of the 3M tape is available at most good auto parts stores (get the thinnest foam type that you can). Stick a couple of strips across the back of your badge, leaving the paper on the car side of the tape for now. Use a sharp hobby knife to trim carefully around the letter (just inside the outline is best, if you're picky), then peel off the liner and stick it on to a clean car.

My wife has now decided she likes the look without the S - but I feel she's just afraid I'm going to screw up putting it back on.

I am going to look into the 3M tape though - thanks!

The 3M tape is what body shops use to put them back on. They do it just as JeffM described.

I may just leave it off - the dual exhausts lets those in the know - know it's an S.

Its literally a 2 minute job.

Wipe down the paint with a bit of rubbing alcohol to get any dirt, wax etc off the surface.

Take the old double sided tape off the S

Put a little double sided tape on the back. It doesn't have to cover every bit of surface area, just a few little rectangular strips in a Z shape will do.

Peel off backing and press onto car. There's honestly nothing to screw up. If you don't like how you put it just pop it off with a bit of floss, apply new tape, and try again.
