Rearview Mirror And Radar Detector

I want to install the electric of my Radar Detector though the Auto Dimmer Rearview Mirror with Universal Garage Door Opener. I have F56 Mini. What wires would I use. See attached. Pictures would be great to help the install

Thanks

If you search for Valentine or V1 or Escort you will find many posts on this.

It is a lot easier to run wires from the fuse box, up the A panel and across the headliner (removing the two sun visor screw helps a lot as it loosens the entire headliner) and drop it by the mirror, and simply add-a-fuse tab to the fuse box (fuse 34 for the 12 volt light). This is one of many links with photos also showing the voltage of the mirror wires which I understend is only 11.5 not 12v.

I don't see how the above is easier than tapping into the existing wiring. Which is what I did on every single car that I own or ever owned.

My MINI's rear view mirror doesn't have auto-dimmer, so you have more wires to choose from than I did. The thick brown wire is always the ground (easy to check with a multi-meter). Then one of the other wires that leads to the map lights (forgot the color - it has been years) gets 12V with ignition ON. Again, use the multi-meter to validate that your power source auto-turns off with ignition off to avoid battery drain, and use it to power the V1.

That is what I did: thick brown wire for ground (same on MINI, BMW, Honda, Audi). Then spot test (use insulation piercing clip, or a tiny needle, to reach the candidate wires for 12V with ignition ON, 0V without), and used those for power.
