iOBD2-BMW Bluetooth

G'day all, has anyone had any experience with a product called iOBD2 and its required Bluetooth OBD adaptor with both the iOBD2 and iOBD2-BMW.

I have one of them and whilst the iOBD2-BMW software works in a fashion, I can not get the iOBD2 to load the Bluetooth on an iPhone 5 (the iPhone can see the dongle), the Software works on the BMW setting but not the standard OBD2 software.

If anyone has had this issue and found a solution I would be grateful for some info.

I think the problem here is that you are attempting to use Bluetooth to connect the device to the iphone. You cannot do that.

From the iobd2.org website:
"iOBD2 is a vehicle diagnostic tool for iPhone phones, and it communicates with these smart phones by WIFI. It supports OBDII/EOBDII."

It is a restriction of Apple and iOS. They don't allow such devices to run over bluetooth. Instead, you have to use the device in WiFi mode. Basically you will establish a WiFi network for the 2 to connect to.

However, Android does not have this restriction so it will work over BT.

Thanks for the reply, I went down that track with the ELM327 before I realised it wont Bluetooth with Apple products but the iOBD2 is supposed to be specific for Apple Bluetooth.

After further attempts, it seems to me to be either a software problem within the program or a compatibility with IOS 7. The Bluetooth connects without issue but the application seems to be having the issues.

Still waiting for the company to respond to an email but no luck yet, if there is no response in a day or two I will be raising a dispute in regards to a replacement or refund as its an expensive bit of kit that is supposedly specific to BMW's (inc Mini) for it not to work.

Will update with any findings.

iobd2-bmw used to work for Mini Cooper and BMW
but now with iPhone software update only works with BMW (still works as generic code reader ) but will not read Cooper mfg specific codes like it used to
