Mini Wave vs Woodlands Snub

So I've lived in The Woodlands area of Houston since December. My wife and I have a Mini each, and having moved from an area where we are accustomed to the Mini Wave, we are surprised - no, mortified - that there is almost zero participation in the Mini Wave scheme.

I mean, I've seen at least 30 Minis in this area over the months (and I don't drive much), and I have had no more than 2 reciprocal waves.

It's at the point where I flash my lights to get the attention, then wave, and the return I seem to get most is an expression that seems to say, "what the hell is he flashing his lights at me for?"

Woodlands people - start waving for Pete's sake. I mean c'mon, I saw two JEEP guys wave at each other a few days ago! THAT made me deeply saddened and nauseous.

Where I live there are so many MINIs around that nobody waves. There are four or five just in my neighborhood alone. After awhile it gets old - especially if you've owned one for many years. Try concentrating more on enjoying your MINI and a little less on who waves to you.

I think this is the key here. The Woodlands area has a ridiculous number of MINIs. Houston has enough MINI sales to support three dealers. If you waved to every MINI on the road you'd almost always be waving.

Have you checked your GPS, MINI_42? Are you sure you're not in Chicago. That's been my experience here so far.

Traffic safety hazard. ;-)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-wave... If I get a wave I try to wave back. I also tend to wave to other Miatas (particularly older ones) when driving my Miata. But there are considerably fewer of those and it's easier to see and be seen in a convertible.

When I had my corvette years ago, ALL vette owners would wave at me and I likewise. Since I've had my new MINI, not a single wave, and there are lots of MINIS where I live....

All that said, if I see you wave I'll do my best to wave back. I'm fairly certain there aren't any other Eclipse Grey MINIs with aero and bonnet stripes in the area.

There will be a "Save The Wave" drive out of MINI of San Antonio on the first of August.

Just sayin'.
