non runflats

About a year ago i ditched my run flats on my '02 R53 and bought regular tires and not 20,000 miles later they won't pass inspection. What can i do besides rotation to extend the life? has it got to do with the suspension set up for run flats?

It's FWD with power , I don't expect any of my tires to last more than 20K.

You could get rock hard tires with a long tread life but then no sence in having a MINI as it won't handle well.

The ole saying make it fast or make it last holds true.

That makes a lot of sense. I thought I was the only one experiencing this problem!

What kind of tires did you get? All season? Summer?

I can get about 25k +/- from a set of summer tires (Yoko S.Drive or Conti DW) and 40-50k from all season (Goodyear OEM RFT or Conti DWS). I do rotate them every 5k miles. Especially with the summer tires, I could definitely tell a difference in tread depth after only 5k miles.

Heck, I'd be happy if I got 20K from a set of tires. I live out in the countryside, so not much highway at all. The OE tires lasted 15K, and yes, I rotated them. (I've got a lift in the garage so it's a really simple thing.) Even wear down to the bars. But they were really pretty horrible. Limited grip, hard ride... Nice turn in response....

Replaced them with Star Specs. After 8K miles they were so noisy I thought there was something wrong with the transmission.

Replaced them with Pilot Super Sports. So far so good.

In the winter I've got Pilot Aplin snows on 16" rims. I got 4 winters out of them, but they'll need to be replaced b4 winter.

You need to be really honest with yourself. How do you drive most of the time? Highway commute? Canyon carving tool? That answer will guide you to a correct tire choice.

It's funny, but my supercharged M3 gets about the same tire life...lol Maybe it's got something to do with how I drive....lol
