Hi everyone, I cannot figure out the function of the button on the steering wheel that looks like a face talking. This button is directly above the button with the phone. I have the bluetooth option but do not have the mini connected or Nav.

What does this button do? I can't locate it in the manual. (I have a '14 Coupe).

In my car it's for voice commands.
For instance you push it and say Sirius channel 32 and it changes the station.

 

Thanks for the info. When I push the button, the radio keeps playing, it doesn't pause to listen for a voice command. It is as if the button isn't working.

 

Mine works, but all it tells me is my phone book is empty. I call it a liar and motor on. I still do it occasionally, I guess hoping it will miraculously see my phone book.

 

That button controls the 'voice command' only if your car has voice command fitted, as an optional extra. All MFSWs (multi-function steering wheels) have that button, whether voice command is fitted or not.

 

I must not have the option then. That would explain why it doesn't work.

 

Actually, I think I heard somewhere (probably on the WhiteRoofRadio podcast) a while back that MINI had deactivated the voice command feature because they got so many complaints that it didn't work to customer expectations - maybe for the 2013 MY? Have to admit that I've never tried to use it in any of the MINIs I've driven, and don't know if my 2013 Clubman does it or not.
