Miles per Gallon
I think that's awesome! 3rd tank now about to fill up, but I think about 33 with just a couple of fun get up n go things, but otherwise very mellow. Running 91 octane and that's the best I can find around here. I would like 92 if I can find it.
Another 2 questions. What's the best octane? Are additives good or fuel injector cleaner stuffs OK to help with the carbon thing?
Thanks!

On a side thought. I had a road rager a bit pissed off at me today. In a minivan! Apparently, I took too much room parking at the convenience store to please him. (I dont even have license plates yet!) the parking lot had huge fuel tank things sticking up above the lot level, so I averaged it to park so as to not bottom out. Lots of other parking spots open, mind you. Some dude started honking at me and flipping me the "bird" so he could get the tie air hose, still with plenty of room to get to it. With some echanges of nice NY gestures, I pulled out of the spot and started to leave to go somewhere else; he decided to tail me out of the parking lot in a huge rage! Like really scary rage! Nice to have some HP to kick his old *** to the curb. Kinda scared me and also the car! I'd never floored it before. It took off like a rocket and the mini-van... well you know. He tried until the first right corner I took and down the road...Idiot! he almost hit a car around the corner as I pulled away with a smile in control. that was it. and back to normal driving. Wow, some people! Pissed me off as it screwed up my first tank experiment on MPG being really good. ****! I have the license plate.
On the road rage, I had something similar happen with an older woman in a Ford. Seems I wasn't moving fast enough for her, she hollered and gave me the bird. All I could do was smile and move out of the way..
Couple of things are probably factors, not the least of which is your driving style - that are contributing to your observed mpg. One is a guess on my part that the climate around SB and SY resulted in not using air conditioning - that probably gave you 1 or 2 mpg, based on my experience.
Also, I didn't mention that my car is an M6, not an automatic.
One final thing, I had no idea that our ethanol-enhanced fuel put such a crimp in fuel economy.
One more final thing: Road trip coming up in spousal unit's new 3 Series. I will be very interested to see what kind of mpg that thing does up I-5 to the Bay Area.
I like to give my straight Mini the beans (I'm way to young to be using that phrase) and I get 36-40mpgs. Mostly drive on 30mph roads in my town and 60mph-ish routes. I find that my mpg does go down when I do 75 on the highway, I wish 6th gear was longer because I find its almost the same as 5th. And let's be real 5th and 6th are only gears for economy anyways
Two things, I guess. First, as you all most likely know, the effect of aero drag is not linear. It is exponential. So if you go 10% faster, say, the drag increase is much more than 10%. So is the decrease in fuel economy. That's why I usually don't go a lot faster than 75 mph. Beyond that, mpg really drops off. At least for me. Also, the faster you go, the more attention you attract from the local highway patrol. I try to avoid that.
Second, not possible to compare mpg of a Justa and an MCS. The presence of forced induction makes them different cars. Or at least different engines. And not just by a little. It's a lot of difference. Basically, the turbo or supercharger overcomes the limitation of displacement. Want more horsepower? Just bump the boost and the engine acts like something much bigger. It's why BMW was able to extract 1600 bhp (I think that's right, but maybe it was only 1,100 hp, but at those levels, what does it matter?) from what was basically a 1,600 cc M10 (2002) engine back in the good old days of turbo F1. Impressive, no? It's why this new generation of turbo engines from BMW/Mini (yes, Mini, not MINI - that's an odd construction dreamed up by marketeers and I refuse to subscribe to it because it's just wrong) hold such promise. I should think that way more than 350 hp might be possible from these things.

I've been keeping track for the last six months and I get a computer mpg consistently 4 mpg higher than the actual. I'd like to know the formula it uses since part of it is predictive. I'm guessing that driving behavior can influence how far off the computer value ends up. For me I just subtract 4 as a quick gauge to how the mpg is doing.
Are you actually calculating that based off of the gallons you put in at the pump versus the miles you have driven? Or are you just going off of what the display in the car is showing? That seems extremely high...
I don't get anywhere near what I should probably. Too heavy of a foot! I usually refill when I'm on the last chili, taking around 13.6 gallons to the fill up. That occurs usually between 300-330 miles. I'm mostly around town in Sport mode having a blast!
As he quotes "motorway miles" I think he is in Britain and so is presumably quoting in miles per imperial gallon. 46 mpgImp is 37 mpgUS - still good for a JCW.
The '13 Cooper S w/ auto tranny is getting 30-32 MPG city when my wife drives it. My city mileage is hovers around 28 but I keep the car in sport mode. The highway milage is 35-36 mpg at 70-75 mph. Driving habits do make a dramatic differance on the gas milage.
I have also found that the on-board computer can be off as much as 4 mpg lower city driving and it has been off as much as 2 mpg higher on highway mileage. I reset the trip odometer every tank and track the mileage in a spreadsheet. We have about 20k miles on the Mini and we thoroughly enjoy this car.

Do you keep a log on Fuelly? I keep Fenimore's log over there, among other places.
I'm noticing that medium-short freeway trips at 65 MPH are netting me about 38 MPG now that the weather has turned cooler...

Getting 32.5 mpg suburban driving on my automatic 2010 clubbie. Hubby gets 45 mpg on his daily drive to work ( highway driving, an hour each way) on his manual shift 2009 cooper. We are both pretty pleased.
I'm pretty happy with our Cooper S.
Doing mostly city driving we get about 25/26 mpg
This weekend with our 500 miles round trip we did 34.4 mpg calculated
. . . and we didn't drive that slow. Mostly 70/75 mph highway and on snow tires!
I'm not sure why the average meter didn't change a whole lot though. It stayed at about 26 mpg... Good I keep a closer watch of the gas consumption

ha ha! that's perfectly alright in my book.
We got a lot of hills around here with too many stop signs so it's really hard to do good mpg even without pushing the car at all.
My wife drives the MINI all week exclusively in eco mode.
But I'll admit I cannot help indulge in the sport mode when I drive it during the weekend. It's just a different little car when the S button is pushed
btw, here is my record since we got the car last August.
I made this spread sheet and it's easy to fill in. It gives me all the little numbers fun to track
