HPDE/warranty

Just posted this on MA, wanted to increase the audience. Thanks in advance for any help!

If I take my car to an HPDE event, with instructor in the car, not a timed/racing event, will my MINI warranty cover anything that wears out a little quicker as a result of being there? I am receiving conflicting opinions, one of which is from my dealer. Is there a place online or otherwise where I can find the facts?

Thanks people!

Here's the thread over there and some answers...

I had once asked my insurance agent a similar question related to coverage during a HPDE in case of an accident. He responded that as long as it is a "driver education class or event" primarily taught to improve your driving skills, crash avoidance, etc. and as long as I was not competing or racing against other drivers, my regular insurance would cover any accident or mishap (ex: sliding into a barrier).

I would think that the MINI warranty would be considered similarly. MINI warranties exclude "acts of negligence or improper operation", but participating in an HPDE itself should not be a problem. I understand the key fob records and stores information on your driving such as max rpms, max speed, sustained speed, etc. which MINI could deem improper if really excessive (i.e. running sustained over-redline RPMs).

They probably will limit you to one set of brakes, but everything else should be covered.

The key fob does not record anything other than service info, (CBS system). The ECU on the other hand...
