Different Engine Sounds
Different Engine Sounds
As some of you know, I just had the engine replaced in MR CHOW.
Now, maybe I'm just being paranoid after having my previous engine crack a piston, but my new engine is making some unfamiliar noises (i.e., different to the way the old engine sounded before it's self-destruction).
Sometimes, everything sounds what I would think is "normal."
METALLIC WHINE
Sometimes, when the engine is revving up through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, I hear a slightly "metallic" sounding whine that increases in pitch. <"ierierierierierierieREIRIRIRIRIRIRIRRRR"> And sometimes this sound is there when downshifting, and decreases in pitch with RPMs. I seems strange because I hear this sound maybe 25% of the time. The rest of the time, everything sounds OK. Could this be a timing chain issue of some kind (i.e., one OTHER than the "rattle")? Or, is this a normal sound to hear from time to time??
The other thing I've noticed is this...
LOW FREQUENCY RUMBLE/VIBRATION
Sometimes, at IDLE, it seems like I hear a very low frequency (pitch) "rumble"...almost like the low rumble the exhaust makes...but the low frequency louder than usual from inside the car, and I can feel a slight physical vibration (such as one that would go with a low frequency rumble) through places where I touch the car (i.e., brake pedal, steering wheel, etc). The vibration isn't large enough where you'd notice it otherwise, unless you are touching the brake pedal, wheel, etc. But the rumble and slight vibration are there. Seems to either go away or is masked when throttle is applied. Again, I notice this about 25% of the time or so.
The metallic whine and the low frequency rumble do not necessarily happen together, but sometimes do.
Any thoughts? Normal? Am I just being extra paranoid and sensitive to every little thing now?? Or, should I have it checked out?
Cheers.
